I have a MA in Psychotherapy and a PG Dipolma and PG Cert in Counselling, I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am an Integrative Therapist which can be confusing lingo in psychological therapies but basically means I adapt my practice to meet the needs of my clients. Counselling isn’t really one size fits all because people are different - and so are their life stories - so working together we can look at interventions that might help.

If you want to feel more connected to your body, move past trauma and be in the world with confidence and ease, this is the space for you. If you wish you could express yourself and feel alive, but your feelings are overwhelming you, or you have lost contact with them altogether, then we can work with this. The good news is that you have all you need inside you to build a better life - I know this from my own experience and from guiding many others. There's an alternative to the traditional talking therapies: movement as a language of healing; a space to explore your relationship with yourself and your body.

Maybe there is fear and anxiety of making change, or you feel stressed and sad? Or maybe there is some unavoidable unhappiness in that is in the background of your life?

Hi my name is Sarah. I work with children and young people. My focus when working with children and young people is to find a way to work with them to help with all of their areas of difficulty, from emotional to school and the variety of difficulties they can experience. I find that children and young people feel most comfortable when they have routine, so the children will always have the same time and day each week, this helps build rapport. I specialise in inclusive therapies which means I can use a variety of techniques which will best support each child individually. From behaviour, emotion, learning, social difficulties,

I am a trauma-informed, integrative therapist with NHS experience. Being trauma-informed means that I use a specific approach to therapy that recognizes and emphasizes understanding how the traumatic experience impacts a person’s mental well-being. This type of therapy is rooted in understanding the connection between the trauma experience and the person’s emotional and behavioural responses. Being integrative means that I can work at your pace with a wide variety of skills tailored to suit you. I am aware that therapy is not a “one size fits all” and I pride myself in working with you to reconnect you with your values in life

Are you experiencing relationship problems, inner conflicts or life stresses? It can help to find someone who is empathic and skilled who offers a safe space in which to share these feelings and dilemmas. Sometimes the issues may have been a pressure in life for months or years, and become part of your personality. It is a relief to discover that there is a solution to be found in therapy. I am especially interested in helping clients who have experienced troubled, sometimes abusive, childhoods and early loss of significant attachment figures. Often later life experience brings back earlier trauma and distress.

As a midwife and birth trauma therapist I have realised that sadly most women who experience trauma through the childbearing experience aren’t getting the help they need. Instead this emotional wound is left unhealed and the consequence permeate through their thoughts, emotions, decisions and relationships. What would it feel like to truly let go of negative thoughts and emotions from your previous traumatic experience, get clarity and create space for a positive new future? How You Feel Matters - because pregnancy, birth and parenting are more than physical event.

Sometimes, we find ourselves alone in the dark forest and can’t find our way out. We could use a few breadcrumbs to show us the way or perhaps a companion to bring some light to the darkness. Whatever burdens you or makes you feel lost or stuck may be part of an untold story of you that contains your deepest and most painful wounds. They may drive important decisions and life choices, try to sabotage our dreams or relationships or tell us that our needs and feelings are not ok. Together, we can find a way of listening so that all the parts of you, even the most difficult, can be heard with compassion and genuine care.

Ok! Is it time to do something about how you have been feeling? It could be that you have been struggling with your negative thoughts, work stress, health challenges, difficulties in your relationships, increased anxiety, low mood, or all of the above and then some. That is the first step, recognising that you can do something different right now to change the way you feel. You may or may not have sought support in the past but that was then, and this is now. It is never too late to put yourself first and prioritise what you need.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
