I see clients individually or in couples, who are suffering from all kinds of anxiety and unhappiness,or are feeling lost or stuck. You may be having problems at work, with self-esteem or in your relationship with a partner or friends. You may need to work through trauma, including bullying and relationship loss. If you are a couple, I will help you to analyze what has gone wrong; and have you learn to nurture your relationship by thinking together and working out how to support each other.

You may be struggling at the moment with relationships or life in general. Perhaps you feel confused about yourself and the other - unsure about whether you are being reasonable or whether it is ok to feel upset or angry. You may put on a mask when dealing with others, terrified of being seen as your authentic self. Perhaps you like people but find them draining after a while. Or you may have experienced abuse, verbal abuse, or bullying in either your family of origin, your workplace or your romantic relationships. Or you may just have a hunch that something's not right or feel that there is something wrong with you.

I offer a space where you don’t have to rely on words alone, using creativity and psychodynamic therapy to help you make sense of feelings and experiences, and find meaning and clarity.
Does something not feel quite right, but you can’t yet pinpoint why? You're feeling frustrated, disconnected or stuck in unhelpful patterns? I work with people who are willing to stay curious, even when therapy feels challenging. As a neurodivergent therapist, I bring intuition, warmth and deep care to the work. I won’t force meaning or assume I know you better than you know yourself. Together, we build trust and safety, making space to explore difficult emotions and move towards greater understanding, clarity and change.

Tailored to your needs, I may use a combination of Psychodynamic and CBT along with Person-centred therapies.
Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed, anxious and uncertain how best to manage their lives. A life changing event, shock, grief and loss, past experiences holding you back from the life you want to live can result in feelings of anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and depression . By pushing away your own needs, by burying your thoughts, feelings and emotions can lead to long term issues that affect both mind and body. By understanding where you are now and the challenges you are facing, therapy can help you to work through the difficulties that you are experiencing and realise your goals to live a better life.

Some people arrive with a clear understanding of what they’re struggling with, while others simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right. You may be feeling emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, stuck in repeating patterns, or exhausted from trying to hold everything together. Others come with bigger questions around identity, meaning, relationships, or how to exist more comfortably in the world. Sometimes these experiences show up not only emotionally, but physically too- through anxiety, tension, numbness, overwhelm, shutdown, or a sense of feeling disconnected from your body.

I am an experienced and qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer therapy in a supportive but also challenging environment to encourage exploration and understanding of your personal issues. I have experience counselling in private practice, the NHS and charities. This has given me a variety of experience working with a wide range of people with many different issues.

Taking the first step into counselling often comes at a moment when life feels heavier than it should. You might be carrying a lot of responsibilities, emotions, other people’s needs and somewhere along the way, you’ve stopped having space for yourself. If that’s where you are, you’re not alone. I offer a calm, steady space where you can breathe, talk, and make sense of what’s been happening inside you. Many of my clients come to me when they feel stuck, overwhelmed by responsibility, or caught in cycles of guilt, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion. Together, we slow things down so you can regain clarity, strength, and a way forward.

Exploration, awareness and experiential work are at the centre, using methods taken from CBT, hypnotherapy, parts work and psychodynamic theories in particular.
Hi, I’m Ed Christmas. I am a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, having trained and practiced integratively since 2018. My focus with clients is to help recognise and address and remove the impact of our conditioning - the ways we are trapped by our past and the beliefs and feelings that remain stuck. Therapy is a space where we will work to promote your sense of awareness, freedom, responsibility and power. I offer both online and face-to-face therapy from my studio in Bentley, Suffolk, from the Stephenson Centre in Ipswich, and I have found that working online is just as connected and effective as face to face sessions.

I have a BA (Hons) Integrative Counselling degree and I use a relational and integrative approach incorporating psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive-behavioural therapy models.
Living overseas can be exciting—but also disorienting. I specialize in supporting expats navigating cultural transitions, identity shifts, and the emotional challenges of life away from home. With a warm, culturally sensitive, and integrative approach, I help clients manage anxieties, loneliness, relationship changes, and cross-cultural communication. Having lived in multiple countries myself, I understand the complexity of belonging and adaptation. Together, we’ll create a space to reconnect with your values, build resilience, and find meaning wherever you are. My goal is to help you feel grounded, confident, and at home.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
