I have over 20 years' experience supporting children and families.
Sometimes life feels overwhelming, or it’s hard to understand why change is so difficult or why you get stuck. You may need space to feel heard, make sense of your experiences, and reconnect with yourself. I can help you explore challenges such as anxiety, low mood, grief, complex trauma, bullying, harassment, suicidal thoughts, identity struggles, sexuality, and the impact of culture or living with dual heritage. Together, we work towards clarity, relief, and greater confidence in yourself and your relationships.

These challenges could stem from a difficult childhood, particularly in your relationships with your parents or siblings, affecting how you connect with others today.
I help clients confront their past wounds by identifying and processing difficult, often buried feelings and thoughts. Together, we find healthy ways to experience these emotions using a variety of therapeutic techniques, such as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Mentalisation-Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Drawing on personal and professional experience, I work with children, young people, and adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, or overwhelm, as well as those healing from trauma, loss, or difficult childhood experiences.
The heart of my work is grounded in the person-centred approach, but also considers other theories and modalities allowing me to become an integrative therapist. I value each individual’s uniqueness, strengths, and capacity for growth, and believe that true healing happens within a safe, non-judgemental relationship where you feel heard and accepted.

Children and Young People have many issues which they cannot always express and understand their feelings, as adults sometimes can.
Children, Young and even adults do not always have the words to express their emotions and I work in a creative way with therapeutic interventions to encourage them to express themselves. My setting is on a farm. I have a therapy kitten called Missy Mischief who the children love. I also have an advanced diploma working with Autism and ADHD.

In my practice as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, I am often supporting children and young people who are neurodivergent, and helping to work together through challenging situations and upsetting feelings.
We can all experience difficulties with how we are feeling at times. This can be made worse by circumstances in our lives or particularly stressful situations. If the difficulties feel like they are persisting and you need support I can help with: Anxiety, including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, separation anxiety and panic, low mood and depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or dealing with traumatic experiences, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It may be that the difficulties you are experiencing overlap and this can be common.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
