If you have been struggling with anxiety, self-criticism, shame, low mood, difficult emotions & relationships, it may be the right time to find a trusted therapist; someone to help you understand & grow from the effects of adversity, stress & trauma. Our wellbeing can be affected by many things - work stress, early adversity, significant trauma or relationships, and we do our best to find helpful coping strategies. When our ways of coping don't work so well, we can feel stuck and isolated - psychological therapy can help us move beyond those barriers. I focus on you as an individual, without using labels or diagnoses.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of therapy. To provide a space where you feel safe, respected and never judged. I am an trained in various therapies including cbt therapy. Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and getting up everyday and doing everyday things is a struggle sometimes we need someone to walk through the dark times with us and to remind us we are not alone and things can and will get better. I am also a qualified coach and work with women that have experienced abuse. Alongside my therapy practice, i am also a supervisor and have 22 years of experience supporting therapists.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. We feel exhausted, stressed, unable to switch off, unsure of our direction, our identity, or there’s something just not quite right. We seem to find time for others, but there’s no time for ourselves or we’re unsure where to turn. Does this sound familiar? This is where I can help. Hi, I'm Gill and I am a Counsellor in the Frodsham area. I can offer you acceptance and a safe, supportive confidential space; where together at a pace guided by you, we can start to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and emotions and get to the bottom of what's weighing you down. Helping you rediscover you.

I’m a trainee counsellor and psychotherapist, supporting adults through a range of life experiences, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, and relationship or attachment difficulties. I’ve worked across GP surgeries, university counselling services, and domestic abuse support settings, which has given me the opportunity to meet people from many different walks of life. At the heart of my work is creating a space where you can feel safe enough to be yourself—whatever that looks like on the day. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear starting point. We can figure things out together, at your pace.

Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or exhausted from trying to manage on their own. Some are exploring a late diagnosis of ADHD, Autisum or other forms of neurodivergence; others are parents looking to support their child who is struggling to express emotions or manage big feelings.

Think of me as someone you can talk to about anything—whether you’re feeling stressed, stuck, overwhelmed, or just need to vent. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling like “technically nothing is wrong in my life, but I’m just not happy. Is this really it?” You might be feeling anxious about the future, unhappy in your relationship, or waiting for a partner to change and realising it’s not happening. Perhaps you’re considering ending your marriage or making a big life change, but the fear of being alone or starting over feels overwhelming. These struggles can leave you feeling anxious, suffocated, taken for granted.

Hello! I specialise in working with women who have depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, addictions, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or who wish to explore and deal with trauma or abuse from their past and the impact it is having on their lives today. I have expertise in and I am certified in the clinical treatment of clients who present with complex psychological trauma. This involves bringing to consciousness your patterns and supporting you to heal, change and grow.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or stuck, even if you can’t fully explain why. Perhaps work, relationships, or life changes have left you questioning yourself, your choices, or your sense of direction. I work with adults and couples who want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and make meaningful, lasting change, rather than relying on quick fixes or coping strategies that don’t hold. Therapy with me offers space to slow down, think clearly, and explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, so you can move forward with greater confidence and agency.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
