I am particularly interested in the way that things that go wrong in childhood can bite us as adults - it might show as low self esteem, high anxiety levels, feeling overwhelmed by things you could deal with once. If there's a residue of pain from earlier in your life that is causing you problems now - maybe relationship issues, or perhaps you can't grieve for someone you've lost, or you simply feel that life is too much - we can work with that. You will decide what your aims are - but maybe a life lived in colour and ease would be a good start.

Feeling like you've lost You? Or maybe you're not sure who You even were to begin with? I work as a Counsellor with people like you who are struggling with who they are, what they want, and how to make changes.  Together, we work out what’s really going on for you, whether that’s at home, in your relationships or at work. We’ll then use that knowledge to determine what you truly want from therapy and keep our sessions moving in a direction that’s beneficial to you.

There are moments when life feels tough — when stress, worry, or sudden changes leave us feeling unsettled or unsure. You might be navigating something you never expected or finding yourself in a place you didn’t choose. Even so, I believe people carry great strength and resilience, which might feel drained right now. It’s completely okay to feel like you’ve run out of steam. My role is to walk alongside you as we gently make sense of what’s been happening and reconnect with the strengths you already have. With the right support, small, meaningful shifts can spark BIG changes — helping you reach your goals and full potential.

I work with adults and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, identity questions, and life transitions. Many of my clients are teens, students, professionals, parents, or people navigating cultural change, belonging, and questions of self esteem and identity. I also work with men who may feel uncertain about therapy or find it difficult to talk about their emotions. Together, we create a safe, collaborative space to explore what is happening, build understanding, develop coping strategies, and find a way forward that feels right for them.

You may feel overwhelmed or stuck in familiar patterns. You might cope outwardly but sense something deeper needs attention. Perhaps you want to understand yourself, uncover your true self and reconnect with what brings meaning and joy. You may notice emotional, mental or creative blocks holding you back. Some seek relief from anxiety, low mood or relationship struggles, while others want to explore creativity and release old patterns. Often people come for a space where they can be truly heard and move towards a freer, more authentic life.

I care deeply about creating a therapy space that feels real. People often come to therapy feeling they’re “too much”, “all over the place” or difficult to understand, but I don’t see people that way.

I am an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist & EMDR Therapist with experience in both NHS and private practice. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores the link between what you do, what you think and how you feel. Unfortunately, life presents us with difficulties and usually we are able to cope well on our own with these situations. There are occasions, when for whatever reason, we need help from someone else, which is usually a friend, colleague or family member. Sometimes, however, you might find you have no one to turn to or talking to a friend or loved one seems too difficult, painful or just too complicated.

I work with people who feel stuck in the same cycles - whether it’s relationships, work, or their own thoughts and who want to understand why. My approach is Psychodynamic, which means we don’t just focus on surface symptoms or quick coping strategies. Instead, we look beneath the patterns you repeat, often without realising, and uncover what’s been driving them. Many clients have tried CBT or other short-term therapies before, but come to me when they sense something deeper still needs attention. Sessions with me are 50 minutes, once a week, in a calm and confidential space where you can bring whatever is on your mind.

Hi, I’m Kathryn. I offer a steady, supportive space where you can begin to make sense of what’s going on for you. I work with adults who may be feeling anxious, low in mood or confidence, overwhelmed, or unsure of themselves. Some come with a clear reason, while others have a sense something isn’t quite right, or that life could feel easier. Life can feel challenging when you’re juggling family, work, or relationships. You might notice yourself feeling anxious, low in mood or confidence, more irritable than usual, or as though life is asking more of you than you have to give. Or maybe you just feel stuck.

Body Image Counsellors
How does body image affect mental health?
Poor body image can influence mental health because it can reduce self-esteem and decrease functioning in other areas of one's life. Negative body image may hinder someone's ability to perform daily tasks, including professional and social responsibilities, because they may feel self-conscious or shame surrounding their appearance; a desire to change one's body as a result of negative body image can also trigger behaviors such as extreme dieting, excessive exercise, or obsessive social media comparison. Poor body image is associated with a number of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, although many people experience negative body image even in the absence of meeting the diagnostic criteria for any mental health disorders.

What does it mean to have a positive body image?
Body image refers to how one internally perceives their appearance and internally "talks" to themself about their body. Positive body image is therefore indicative of a positive perception of one's self and positive internal self-talk that underscores one's strengths. People who have good body image often have higher self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence, and they also often recognise how external factors, such as social media or relationship patterns, can influence body image. While body image can change at different life stages and in response to various triggers, practicing self-acceptance and a body-positive mindset can help maintain a more stable sense of positive body image.

Is body image the same as self-esteem?
Body image and self-esteem are often related, but they are distinct concepts. Self-esteem is a broader term that can be shaped by a number of factors outside of body image, including one's functioning at school or in the workplace; it refers to one's capacity to handle various life challenges. Poor body image can be one way in which one's self-esteem is reduced. Reduced self-esteem as a result of poor body image can cause individuals to feel negative about their appearance, withdraw from social interactions, and/or rely on harmful behaviours as a coping mechanism. A "body positive" approach to body image therapy is therefore often used to encourage a more positive view of one's self and thus encourage better self-esteem.

What type of therapy is best to foster a positive body image?
The type of therapy best suited to improve body image depends on each person, as there is not a single therapy specific to body image improvement. That said, many individuals with poor body image benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy. CBT can be used to help challenge distorted or negative thoughts about one's body, while ACT and mindfulness practices can facilitate a more positive body image through self-acceptance and identification of one's personal strengths. Regardless of treatment type, clients should look for body image therapists who encourage the development of a sense of self outside of their external appearance and help clients reduce unwanted behaviours developed as a result of poor self-esteem, such as dieting or disordered eating patterns.
