I explore areas such as; communication, conflict, sex, parenting, identity, historic and current abuse and the 'family system' to help bring understanding around dysfunctional patterns of behaviour and their consequences, in the past and the present.
I am qualified as an integrative counsellor and my busy private practice reflects a broad range of clients and their issues. I work with people of all ages, from all backgrounds struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction and stress. I also have experience of clients with bereavement, loss, panic attacks, trauma, sex and pornography addiction, anger and eating disorders. I work with individuals and couples and favour a systemic approach looking at context, social environment and behaviour patterns as well as attachments from the past that impact the present.

I help people with anxiety, depression, low mood and loneliness, self harm, eating issues, retirement, parenting, separation and the way they relate to others.
I listen to your story. I reflect what I have heard and help you to look at the developed behaviours. Together we can identify helpful and unhelpful parts. We can then move our emphasis to resolution. I use person centred, psychodynamic and systemic practices to inform the support and interventions chosen.

I have expertise and experience in trauma, anxiety, depression, work and life stress, family relationship problems, physical health problems, parenting, cultural issues and neurodiversity.
Do you keep coming back to the same problem, and struggle to get yourself out? Have you tried lots of different things and feel it’s time to reach out for professional help? Perhaps life has thrown challenge after challenge at you, and you are reaching your limit. Perhaps there has always been a problem you’ve suppressed, and you now feel it’s time to get help for it. Or you would like some time and space to explore your past. You could be seeking help for yourself, or it could be for a loved one or a child - they need help and you also want to know how to help them.

We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
