You might look like you’re holding it all together but inside, things feel harder than they should. Maybe you’re anxious, overwhelmed or shut down. You overthink, avoid conflict, struggle to relax or feel close to others. It’s not that you’re over-reacting, your body may still be responding to a past that hasn’t felt safe. I help adults make sense of these patterns, especially those shaped by childhood neglect or abuse, so they can feel more grounded, connected and in control of their lives again. I'm an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, specialising in post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and trauma recovery.

Starting therapy can be daunting so it’s important that you identify a therapist and an approach to working that feels right for you. As an art psychotherapist, I am open, honest and inclusive with considerable experience supporting children, adolescents and young adults in schools and community settings. My approach to working is psychodynamic - I’m interested in how past events may have affected you, both consciously and unconsciously, influencing the way you think, feel and behave. Should talking about your experiences be too difficult, I may encourage you to try different creative techniques as an alternate means of expression.

Life can present difficulties and challenges due to various circumstances, complicated relationships, work or home-related issues, or grief and loss. If you are feeling anxious, unhappy, or unsure where to turn, counselling provides an opportunity to explore your concerns and better understand yourself and your emotions. This can lead to increased self-confidence and resilience in life. As a parent of a Special Educational Needs (SEN) child, I understand the challenges and stresses. I also offer counselling to parents and carers of SEN children and adolescents, supporting you on this unique journey.

Hello, my name is Ben and I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and Counsellor practising in Surrey (Guildford), Hampshire (Basingstoke) and also online via a secure, encrypted network.
I'm conscious that wait times can be quite long for practitioners at the moment. Having worked privately now for nearly 15 years, I've built connections with a number of other Psychologists. Therefore, as well as running my clinic I offer a screening/recommendation service to ensure you see the best practitioner for you. This discussion is not charged.

I work with adult clients in-person, online and on telephone.
I’m Andrea, a counsellor based in Guildford and Camberley. Before qualifying as a counsellor I worked in Employee Wellbeing supporting colleagues for over 17 years. I helped those experiencing problems such as poor mental health, burnout, relationship breakdowns and ill-health. I find the counselling relationship is like no other. It offers a safe and non-judgmental space to explore thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism or misunderstanding whilst valuing your individual experiences. I believe a therapeutic relationship that is based on trust, respect, and openness will facilitate change.

Hello, I'm Seana. I am qualified and accredited as a counsellor and a coach and I’ve discovered that the integration of these two approaches brings powerful results for my clients. I offer counselling and therapeutic coaching to women who are navigating change in their lives or careers and I am especially passionate about helping to create a future where midlife women feel a strong sense of purpose and are living the lives that they want. Why? Because all too often women give everything of themselves to those around them and find that doing what they want to do for themselves is at the bottom of the list.

I hold an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London, supporting adults both in-person in Guildford and online.
You might be feeling anxious, low, stuck, or facing the same struggles in relationships. Often, we don’t know why these feelings arise or why they keep returning. At our core, we all long for love and belonging, and when those needs go unmet, it can impact our wellbeing. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore what’s beneath the surface. Together, we can make sense of past experiences, uncover patterns, and begin to create meaningful change.

I work online and in Surrey (in Guildford or Brockham) either short or longer term - at a pace that is comfortable for you.
I’m Julia a friendly and supportive counsellor. Following adversity, I’ve been lucky enough through counselling, to have become comfortable in my own skin, hence my desire to support others - who've perhaps also been impacted by life's challenges - to achieve this. Through decades of providing coaching and mentoring support to people during my business career, I have gained valuable insight into how stress and work-related pressure can impact our sense of well-being - in all aspects of our life.

We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
