Hello, we are the Integrative Centre for OCD Therapy.
We are integrative at our core. Which means we often integrate two or more therapies to meet the needs of the individual. Each of our therapists come with a wealth of training in different therapies, however the foundation of what we do is exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

I see that all behaviours such as self-harm, suicide attempts, drinking, drug abuse and other impulsive behaviours have developed as coping strategies to cope with and numb difficult emotions and experiences. These behaviours often act as a plaster to a deeper wound, but just like a plaster they don’t really ever fully heal unless they have time to heal properly. This is the work of therapy to take off the plaster and look more towards the root causes of the behaviour to work out what is going on for you. My instagram page offers an insight to how I work and might be helpful to get a further sense of how I work psychwithemma

I can help you to walk through this journey, to find a way to a safe place which respects your values and beliefs. You can talk about any issues that bother you and explore your emotions without judgment. I have 19 years of training and experience in a broad range of topics in psychotherapy counselling and educational therapy.

Alongside neurodiversity, I also support clients experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression, OCD, bereavement, relationship difficulties and low self-esteem.
I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist (BA Hons) offering a warm, non-judgemental and compassionate space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace.
My approach is person-centred and integrative, which means I adapt therapy to the individual rather than following a “one size fits all” approach. Where helpful, I may draw on CBT, systemic thinking and other therapeutic approaches, while keeping our relationship at the heart of the work. I work collaboratively and gently, creating a space where you can feel safe, understood and accepted, without pressure to explore anything before you feel ready.

Therapy with me is not about being analysed or told what to do. It is a space to think properly about what is happening, to unburden, to be truly heard and understood. People usually come to counselling because something has become too much to carry alone. You may feel anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, low in confidence, caught in painful relationship patterns or affected by experiences from the past from which you cannot move on. I work with those who want to understand what is happening beneath the surface, who want to make sense of recurring patterns and find a way of moving forward that feels more manageable and more their own.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
