Life will always present us with challenges and difficult situations. Sometimes these challenges can get on top of us and we stop living and enjoying our lives as fully as we would like. This is where counselling can be of help. Counselling is about offering a supportive
relationship
in a safe and confidential environment to talk through whatever is concerning them. Counselling is not about giving advice and counsellors can never be experts in other people’s lives. Counselling is about helping people find their unique strengths to work through a particular issue in the best way for them so that they can live a happy life.

It may be that you are experiencing troubling negative thoughts and beliefs about yourself, others, or both. Or it may be you have noticed that some of the things you do in personal or work relationships, or to yourself, are destructive and unhelpful. And it may be all of the above, or just repeated sense that something just isn’t right - but your not sure what.

relationship

You may be feeling life is just too much to manage right now, perhaps you've had a bereavement or loss, or maybe something from the past is impacting on how you are feeling. Asking for professional help can feel daunting, but once you've made that decision, it can bring relief and then finding the right person, who can hear your concerns and support you, is really important. I can offer a safe, confidential space and give you the time and space to explore what is going on for you, to help you gain awareness and insight into what's troubling you and help you reach your goals.

My main aim in life has and always will be to help people find peace and joy in their lives. This can be very difficult to source when life today is so challenging. Whether it is financial worries, loss of a loved one, disability, illness, family issues, bullying, work pressure, trauma, (amongst others) all can induce stress, depression and anxiety. Besides a wealth of life experience, I have a degree in Integrative
relationship
counselling, which enables me to work in a way to suit each individual and their issues. We will work together at your pace to find a healing path.

Hello. You're probably here because you are finding life difficult in some way. Life can be really hard, and it can sometimes feel even harder looking for support. As a therapist I love helping people with that by providing a safe, non-judgemental space to explore and work through some of these difficult things together. In therapy we do this through developing a 'therapeutic
relationship
'. This means that we commit to working together over a sustained period of time to understand and process what is going on, so that positive to change can begin to happen. This isn't always easy, but it's absolutely worth it.

I work with individuals (teens and adults) presenting with a wide range of concerns such as sexuality, gender and dysphoria, OCD and intrusive thoughts,
couples
work and
relationship
issues.
Are you experiencing a difficult or challenging time in your life? Perhaps you are feeling stuck and unable to move forward? Whatever your reason for considering therapy and viewing my profile, it is often the case that we 'hit the wall' or 'crash' emotionally before we can identify that we may need professional support. When our usual coping mechanisms no longer work the struggle can be overwhelming. As your therapist I recognise this as your first and critical step toward positive change. You are, I'm sure, familiar with the phrase 'if you do what you've always done...you get what you've always got' and how true it is.....

I strongly believe that the
relationship
between a client and therapist is crucial to healing and progression, which is why I encourage clients to call or email me, with no obligation.
I offer support to clients who may be experiencing times of anxiety, depression, bereavement or sleep difficulties. Perhaps you are struggling with a particular life event, and would like to talk through difficulties with someone other than family or friends. I offer empathic and non-judgemental listening in a safe space, allowing clients to explore what is going on for them. I also offer more proactive, solution focused ways of encouraging self-support and strategies.

Living with the affects of trauma can be frightening and isolating, leading to feelings of depression, anxiety, low self-worth, confidence and
relationship
issues, nightmares, sleep deprivation and re-experiencing an event over and over.

Do you have flashbacks, anxiety, depression or maybe you can't understand the triggers that force you into a feeling of freezing, fear or running away. Maybe you were in an accident or witnessed an accident. Maybe you witnessed domestic abuse as a child or were physically or emotionally neglected or abused. I have realised that the client/counsellor
relationship
is of utmost importance to enable a connection.
You may be feeling low, depressed, anxious, angry or experience bereavement or grief. This can feel overwhelming and leave you needing some support and you may find at this time counselling could help. My approach is warm, emphatic, and confidential giving you an opportunity to feel heard and supported. I understand how hard it is to make that first contact and to talk about what is troubling you and I aim to make that first conversation as comfortable as possible.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
