There may be a number of reasons that bring you to therapy in this particular moment. These could be long term concerns, such as anxiety, depression , relationship issues, self-esteem / self-identity and past trauma(s), or more immediate concerns such as the impact of COVID-19 on your mental health. You may also be looking to understand yourself better, perhaps with some sense of unease about yourself that you can’t quite put your finger on yet.

I have private and NHS experience working with clients with a wide variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression , low self-esteem, bereavement, self-harm, relationship issues, domestic abuse, weight loss, chronic pain, and PTSD. Some clients have a good understanding of their issues and what they want to achieve, whereas others are not so sure and want help to find these things out. Whilst some issues are fairly clear cut, others can be more complex and have been present for a long time. Regardless of this, all of my clients have wanted to make changes that will improve their situation and help them to enjoy life.

Your past is something you desperately want to forget. You have done your utmost to push it all out of your mind and just get on with your life. But no matter how hard you try, those awful thoughts and feelings follow you wherever you go, catching you out when you least expect it. You feel trapped, powerless to change any of this. You feel out of control, unable to manage the stress in your body. And every time those images pop into your mind, you feel ashamed and guilty. There is this voice inside you telling you you should have done something more, something else. Then it would have all been different.

It is my goal to facilitate the right conditions for you to reconnect with your personal power, through being heard, feeling accepted and valued. As your counsellor: I am a guest in your world, remaining with you as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and your experience of life. This might take the form of short-term counselling, to explore a current concern; or longer-term psychotherapy aiming to unravel past hurts that are impacting your life right now.

My background is working in mainstream schools with children who are neurodivergent. I understand how having a learning difficulty, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) or ADHD can make it a struggle to fit in with the structure of school. These struggles can often make the individual highly anxious and struggle to remain regulated throughout the day. I also have an understanding of the difficulties and frustrations felt by parents and other family members. I am able to offer a warm, calm and inviting space to provide counselling to all.

I see individual clients and couples for issues including anxiety, depression , anger, bereavement, stress, low self-esteem, communication issues, etc.
A warm welcome to my page, life can seem extremely difficult at times as we may face situations that are challenging to deal with either on our own or in our relationship. This can leave us feeling quite vulnerable and alone in the world, and may be caused by situations that seem out of our control. Together we can explore the emotions you are feeling, I will help you to unravel all the sad and negative thoughts that keep ruminating within you giving you those difficult feelings to deal with. I will do so in a supportive and empathic way so you no longer feel alone with your struggles.

I’m Sam and I’m a BABCP accredited cognitive behaviour therapist. I support people who are experiencing depression or anxiety, helping them to reach their goals and improve their quality of life. I aim to support clients to have a better understanding of their difficulties and then work collaboratively together to understand how to change the things that are no longer helpful. I believe that therapy works best when people are active participants and I will support people to do this from the beginning to the end of their treatment, with an empathetic and compassionate approach.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Gosport. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
