I have particular experience in working with neurodiversity ( autism, dyslexia, ODD) and continue training in the area as well as building on my background in art to offer creative approaches to therapy with a person-centered core.
My clients have a variety of issues. I encourage my clients to have a sense of curiosity about themselves and their process in our work together. Throughout therapy, I seek to meet such needs as genuine understanding and acceptance as well as the provision of a space of safety when clients may be experiencing a life situation or condition that feels unsafe. If you are seeking a therapist with shared lives experience, I can offer personal insights to clients who are seeking counselling for immune illnesses / bowel disease-related depression and anxiety.

My experiences include Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Autism, OCD, Trauma, Stress, Relationships, Self Esteem, Loss, LGBTQ+.
Are you questioning life, struggling, feeling lost, wondering what is wrong and why does it feel I'm not getting it quite right! You're not alone and within us we all have the need to be connected with ourselves and sometimes we struggle feeling connected to others, to feel okay and have our own sense of purpose. We live in a fast pace changing world, which doesn't always support us, when we wish to be truly heard, at our pace and to have the private time to reflect and make changes.

I work with children, young people and their families, often when things are feeling difficult or overwhelming. Some of the reasons families have worked with me include: support to understand and manage feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration; difficulties with emotion-regulation; and difficulties within family relationships, including parent-infant and parent-child relationships.

In counselling you will be thinking with another person about how you manage life’s struggles, how you relate to friends and family and how your present situation may be related to your past experiences. Talking and thinking with another can bring about a new perspective to old problems or worries and help you find new ways of approaching things. in. In my experience even small changes can have a very positive impact. Speaking to someone might feel a bit daunting to begin with but I find people soon settle in.

I have vast experience in working with individuals with Autism and ADHD and have completed extensive training in diagnostic assessment of these conditions in both children and adults.
As a child psychologist and parent, I understand how hard it can be to find the right support for your child or teen when they are struggling and need it most. Whether you have concerns about your child or teen's well being or development and they require individual support or you just want to know you are going in the right direction as a parent, I'm here to help. I will first complete an initial assessment with you and your child or teen to develop and understanding of the difficulties they face, which will then help guide treatment. We will then decide on the collaborative goals to work towards in therapy.

I offer short and long term counselling to adults - providing a non-judgemental and empathetic space to be truly heard.  My specialisms are times of life transitions, particularly bereavement and new parenthood. I trained integratively but primarily work from a person-centred space. This means that I believe you are the expert in knowing what you need. However, I understand from personal experience that this internal voice can sometimes feel lost or silenced and having another person there to validate, listen and support your process can make a real difference.

Are you trying to figure out what keeps going wrong in your relationships off the back of a break up? Perhaps you are up late into the night scrolling for advice on how to feel less anxious and overwhelmed. Are you reflecting on your life and questioning if you are actually happy? A multitude of reasons bring us to therapy; and 9 times out of 10 when I ask my clients "what do you hope to get out of it?" they say, "I just want to feel more myself" or "I want to be happier." When we get to the core of what is not aligning in your life, that is how we find the pathway that leads you in a new direction.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
