My name is Zehavit and I am a trauma informed person centred counsellor. I love listening and have many years experience engaging with vulnerable people through mentoring. I am an Integrative therapist, which means I have been trained in a number of approaches so I can adapt to your needs. I also work relationally, believing the therapeutic relationship itself can be part of the healing process. As a queer therapist I am committed to offering those identifying as LGBTQ+ a safe and empowering space to explore issues relating to gender, sexuality and relationship diversity (GSRD). I aim to be neurodiversity affirming throughout my practice and am open to discussing your communication needs. I provide a warm, understanding and compassionate approach and aim for you to feel affirmed, understood and heard.

Through open and honest dialogue I work with you to explore your inner world and uncover the root of your struggles, ultimately helping you to find new ways of being and relating to yourself and others. My approach is to create a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Therapy is a process where we work together to uncover the underlying patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back. By fostering self-awareness and promoting self-acceptance I help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.

Hello and welcome to my page. I recognise the courage it takes to approach a therapist and would like to help you. Over ten years of practising, therapy has shown me time and time again how people can overcome their problems successfully and live fulfilled and happy lives. In today's pressured world, mental health problems are all too common. Maybe you're struggling with depression or stress or the problem is anxiety, or trauma, or grief. Perhaps you're struggling with a habit that started off as a pleasure but turned into an addiction over lockdown. Whatever the mental health problem, talking therapy can help.

Navigating life can be hard especially in today's world of conflict and unrest alongside individual issues and struggles. This may leave you feeling you are living your life not as you want but as you think you "should" or that you have few, if any, real choices. Perhaps you feel missed, unseen, unfulfilled or disatisfied? You hide your true feelings or say things you don't mean ? You may have specific issues, unfinished business, things that keep showing up in your life that are not helful and leave you feeling stuck. You may bring a diagnosis or label you want to explore, question, expand, embrace, celebrate or discard...

I have experience supporting people who are experiencing gender dysphoria.
Psychotherapy deals with current problems. You may come because of a particular relationship issue or you may not be sure exactly what the problem is but find yourself repeating painful or limiting patterns in life. It may only be through talking to someone that you gain an understanding of what you want to work on. Therapy can be a gradual unfolding process where you have the opportunity to understand how you have become the person you are. This may include talking about how the past has influenced you, exploring your relationships then and now and the way you respond to your life as it is.

I work in private practice and in Secondary schools with many mental health issues such as anxiety, self-harm, low mood, gender dysphoria, self-esteem and confidence.
I offer a safe non judgemental space to explore, express and understand what is happening for that person. I work creatively and around what suits the client. I am a person-centred counsellor, and the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of the process. I like to ensure that we can share honesty and humour and move forward positively.

Do you need support with what’s on your mind? Maybe you feel depressed, anxious or unfulfilled in your relationships. Or perhaps you can’t stop thinking about the past, or worrying about the future. Your feelings might feel overwhelming, or you might feel shut down.

Hello, I’m Rebecca. I will be by your side as you explore whatever you wish to share, accepting all parts of you and bringing all parts of myself. As a person-centred therapist I offer a space that is non-judgemental, open and supportive. I offer you space that is just for you, to have the time to be heard and express yourself. I'm passionate about social justice and embed this in my practice, curious about how your identities and life experiences are felt and perceived. It feels like a really hard time to be queer and/or trans at the moment, I'm here to hold you and have understanding and experience.

Transgender Counsellors

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
