Are you experiencing distress or dissatisfaction in your life no matter how hard you try? This may have been going on for a long time or perhaps you're left feeling out-of-control after a loved-one dying, a big change happening in your life, or maybe illness striking you or somebody that you care for? Perhaps nothing has happened, but you feel stuck and unhappy with your life and relationships? Are you exhausted taking care of others needs whilst ignoring your own? Whatever your situation you would like to find greater ease within yourself and have more satisfying relationships with other people in your life.

You may be thoughtful and capable yet feel stuck in confusing relationship patterns, family dynamics, or emotional situations that leave you worn down. Many people come to therapy feeling they carry too much responsibility for others or struggle to trust their own perceptions. I work with individuals and couples to understand what keeps happening in their relationships and find clearer, steadier ways forward.

I work in a way that’s person-centred, integrative, inclusive and relational. I always place your needs and values at the centre of our therapeutic work, while embracing your freedom and autonomy. I take an affirmative approach in encouraging you to bring any and all parts of your unique self; I take care to not pathologise or criticise you. I work very relationally, and I believe therapy can only be effective if there’s a strong therapeutic relationship at the heart of it. I’m interested in exploring what goes on in the therapeutic process and how this may mirror dynamics you’re experiencing in your wider life and relationships.

I work with a wide range of diverse needs and people, but particularly those struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, poor self-esteem and the feeling that they are just not good enough. Many of the people I work with find themselves feeling constantly anxious - worrying about what other people think of them, trying to keep everyone happy or believing they are flawed and not good enough. They are often exhausted and frustrated that they can't find a way to break free from this.

Having a fulfilling and lasting relationship is something we all aspire to, but it isn't always easy. Relationships can go wrong for all sorts of reasons and it's difficult to know where to go for help. In my work as a sex and relationship therapist, I work with both couples and individuals to not only get your relationship back on track and improve communication, but also to help it develop so that it achieves its full potential. Often, problems in a relationship can be an opportunity to develop it so get in touch with me if you need some help either to heal a crisis or to make your relationship the best it can be.

Anxiety has a way of shaping more of your life than you'd like. For some people it looks like panic or physical sensations. For others it's never feeling good enough, holding back in relationships, going quiet when they'd want to speak up, or pushing through everything until they're exhausted. People come to me thinking something is wrong with them, when actually fear has just taken over.

Welcome to a life journey, where you take the centre. I am committed to hearing you without judgement and offer safe space, warmth, compassion and empathy. I practice psychotherapy, using psychodynamic theory to offer relational therapy.
I believe in the power of opening up, and while I will draw on theory and knowledge to support each individual, I am led by the client and their individual needs. An ideal client is someone who wishes to build a therapeutic space alongside me, allowing me to facilitate safety and build trust. I am interested in helping others to develop personal growth and insight through the relational dynamics they experience.

I offer compassionate, trauma-informed support for personal growth. I'll support you to recognise the ways in which trauma is impacting the ways you relate to yourself and others, and to also uncover new strengths and pathways for meaningful personal growth beyond the challenges you've experienced. I have often found that understanding people's diagnoses and symptoms as responses to what they have lived through is valuable in helping them shed the self-blame they might carry. Often, people find themselves stuck in cycles of behaviour that no longer serve them, yet feel at a loss for how to make meaningful change.

People come to therapy for many reasons - sometimes because they're living with a mental health condition, sometimes because life feels overwhelming, and sometimes because something deeper is stirring that is hard to name. You're welcome here wherever you're starting from. Alongside supporting people through emotional distress, I'm especially drawn to the deeper layers of human experience: questions of identity, meaning, transition, and how to live a life that feels like your own. I offer a warm, steady presence where you can slow down, listen inwards and find language for what has felt confusing or unspoken.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
