I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist (BACP) and psychodynamic counsellor (BPC), qualified to Master of Science level (Birkbeck, University of London). Having worked in a London-based GP practice on a pro bono basis for several years, I have helped patients from many backgrounds, nationalities, ethnicities, religions, genders, and sexual orientations with the internal, and often, unconscious conflicts that have negatively impacted their emotional and mental well-being and that prevented them from living their everyday life to the fullest.

Reaching out for therapy is a brave step but it can also be a daunting one. It can be hard to know where to turn to or who to trust. I understand this firsthand as I too sought therapy many years ago to help address my own battle with depression. Indeed it was this experience that ignited my passion for helping others struggling with their mental health and which led me to re-train as a therapist. I feel very privileged to be able to support people in their time of need and strive to do so by providing a non-judgemental, compassionate and collaborative space for talking.

Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about positive change and to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and your past experiences.

Hello and Welcome, Life can indeed be difficult at times. Many are struggling with mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings can rise to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a PHD(Hon), Master Degree and EMDR(Accredited), I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

As a trans woman, I know what it's like to explain myself to someone who just doesn’t ‘get it’. I believe every trans and non-binary person deserves a therapist who understands them without judgement. Figuring out who we are is difficult enough without the crowd of people out there who don't want us to exist at all. You may be having issues with your relationships, mental health, or be unsure of where you want to end up. Transphobia, misogyny, or homophobia may be be obstacles for you in your daily life.

I offer counselling to people who are in some sort of transition in their lives. Often people come to me when they're feeling stuck, isolated or low. I often work with people in their twenties, thirties and forties who are facing some sort of mid-life transition. You might be weighing up what is important to you, and how to take the next steps in your life. I work with people who are often from marginalised groups, for example, LGBTQ+ people and/or people from Black and ethnic minorities. You might want to find out a way to live your life that feels authentic and unblock energy to achieve your goals.

As a Gender Idendity, Lesbian, Gay and Bi-sexual specialist counsellor, I understand the unique challenges faced by couples and individuals in the UK. My ideal clients grapple with issues of identity, acceptance, and relationship dynamics. They seek a supportive space to explore their gender and sexual identities, manage minority stress, and strengthen their relationships. They aim to build resilience, enhance self-acceptance, and foster deeper connections with their partners and communities, seeking to feel seen, heard, and validated in a society that often misunderstands them.

Life has a habit of bringing dilemmas, difficulties, and struggles into our path. It is just human to respond with hurt, shame, anxiety, or by feeling lost, stuck, and depressed. Psychotherapy can help you make sense of them and move forward. Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to create a space where you can feel safe, understood, and listened to — a space where you can be fully yourself, with no need to perform or explain yourself. The ultimate goal is to help you create a more meaningful life and explore new ways of approaching your relationships with yourself, others, and the world.

Hi there. If you are trans or looking to explore gender identity issues I'd be very happy to talk. I'm a Gender Identity Specialist and I've been supporting people through and beyond transition as a therapist for the last 15 years. I’m also trans myself. Gender transition can be an incredible opportunity for growth but can also be overwhelming and anxiety filled. It's normal to feel unsure and want to take time to work out what's right for you. And beyond transition, we can still need support for everything else life brings. I'm neuro-divergent friendly and happy to chat through any needs you have.

Transgender Counsellors

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
