I understand that beginning therapy might seem a little daunting and offer a free initial 20 minute session so we can begin to get to know each other. You may be struggling with daily life and concerns about the pandemic and your future. Therapy can provide a private space for you to focus on what is happening for you right now. I offer you my warmth, empathy and compassion, without judgment, and work collaboratively with you to navigate through even the most difficult times in your life.

If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, you’re not alone. You may be carrying old wounds, people-pleasing patterns, or tension in your body you can’t quite explain. You might be tired of holding everything together on your own and longing for clarity and steadiness. I offer a gentle, grounded space where we can explore why things feel this way and begin to untangle patterns that no longer serve you, slowly, safely, and at your pace.

You over think every detail, constantly going over events from the past, trying to pre-empt the future. You're exhausted by your own inner monologue, one that never seems to quieten down (unless the music is on really loud!) but you're great at putting one foot in front of the other, getting on with it, not making a fuss. So, what keeps you stuck, drives your patterns? In sessions we can untangle that self-criticism, look at where it may come from so that you can start to make choices based on your needs.

I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and a Doctor of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy candidate at the University of Exeter. With over 25 years of clinical experience in the NHS (CAMHS) and private practice, I offer a sophisticated, relational approach to healing. My work is grounded in the belief that our present struggles—be they anxiety or relationship patterns—are often shaped by unconscious scripts. By decoding these deeper patterns, I help you find a sense of agency and lasting change. While my background includes social work and art therapy, my focus remains on the transformative power of the psychoanalytic relationship.

Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about positive change and to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and your past experiences.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
