My doctorate training specialised in cognitive,
psychodynamic
, behavioural and systemic theory and application meaning I have a broad skillset to draw on.
I have been lucky enough in my career to date to work with some incredibly inspiring and brave individuals who have been at a crossroads in their life. Sometimes making change felt frightening or impossible due to past beliefs, stuck patterns of behaviour or limiting thought processes. Others were struggling to move on after devastation, illness, loss or identity crisis. I believe it is a privilege to be able to guide those in need at these times due to the courage and vulnerability they show. They are asking from the heart for a new beginning - to break from the past, not feel scared by the future and live truly in the present.

Compassionate and creative psychotherapeutic counselling with a warm and relatable BACP registered qualified therapist. I offer humanistic,
psychodynamic
based integrative therapy informed by a relational approach. What is this like in practise? Essentially, supported by a safe environment without external pressure or judgment, we can explore anything you need to (you might not know what - that is welcome too). Led by your experiences and feelings and with the support of therapeutic knowledge, we will look to expand your understanding and diffuse the impact of what might be hindering you.

My approach to Counselling is Integrative, drawing from
Psychodynamic
and Humanistic model.
I offer a safe and confidential space where you will have the chance to share your problems, your difficult feelings, your pain and your life story. Talking about our life honestly and openly, with an empathic and non-judgemental therapist can be a deeply healing process. Having a space where we can be fully ourselves, where we’re invited to slow down, breathe and investigate our inner world and our emotions is necessary, today, more than ever. We live busy lives and for many, it is difficult to stop and notice, most of the time, what is going on inside us. As we reconnect to our feelings and our essence there is an immediate sense

Not taking on new clients. We can all struggle with our relationships, both sexually & emotionally, and talking about these problems can be particularly daunting. These struggles can take many forms, ranging from conflict difficulties, marital problems, pain during intercourse, a lack of desire, erectile dysfunction, sexual identity, childhood trauma affecting our adult relationships and many others. Taking the first step to seek out therapy is a difficult one, but one that could help to break the cycle we are currently playing out. I provide the same warmth and care to all members of society. LGBTQ+, kink and fetish friendly.

Therapy offers insight and understanding helping you work towards an awareness of the self. It gives the opportunity to discover inbuilt defence mechanisms that perhaps no longer serve the person you have become as a result of the traumas we all experience in life. Counselling can be a quiet, safe space to breathe and think about your life. Who you are, where you are going and what you wish to gain. It can be a space to grieve the losses you have experienced in your life and the changes that happen throughout your life.

I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor supporting people who are anxious or grieving, frightened, lonely, struggling with sadness or in distress. I offer a warm and genuine welcome, an open heart and mind and time & space to be with you, to be alongside you for as much time as you need. After working as a paramedic for over 10 years I decided I wanted to retrain as a counsellor. I have continued to work for the NHS and find that people can be surprisingly resilient with the right emotional support.

I work in an integrative way, and find
psychodynamic
and relational approaches in particular offer great insight into how our past can live on in the present.
Whether you have recently experienced a crisis in life, or have a more enduring sense of something feeling wrong, I offer a compassionate space for you to explore whatever issue brings you to therapy. Beginning to talk about yourself and what you are dealing with may feel new or even unnerving, so I am always mindful to work with you at your own pace. In the process of therapy many different issues may come up for you, and the space provided by therapy allows us to work through these issues together. I also offer outdoor ecopsychotherapy sessions, please let me know if this would be of interest to you.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
