I am happy to work with anyone who has ever identified with the following Whether you are bumping up against the end of a significant relationship, a spiritual or existential crisis or something as vague as a constant state of dread and feelings of hopelessness. You may have noticed that you tend to keep on making the same mistakes over and over again, repeating patterns you feel powerless to change. You may be fearful that you are not an agent in your own life, that you are without a sense of direction and feel empty much of the time. Or you may feel the need to face the traumas and abuse that have haunted you since childhood

Having a fulfilling and lasting relationship is something we all aspire to, but it isn't always easy. Relationships can go wrong for all sorts of reasons and it's difficult to know where to go for help. In my work as a sex and relationship therapist, I work with both couples and individuals to not only get your relationship back on track and improve communication, but also to help it develop so that it achieves its full potential. Often, problems in a relationship can be an opportunity to develop it so get in touch with me if you need some help either to heal a crisis or to make your relationship the best it can be.

I am a psychodynamic counsellor, which means we’ll look at events in your life that may be making you feel stuck, overwhelmed, trapped in old patterns or maybe you’ve got a feeling that something isn’t quite right.
If life feels too difficult and confusing right now, you don’t have face it alone. I can offer you a space where you can breathe, talk freely and start feeling like yourself again. You won’t be judged; just heard, understood and supported. Together, we’ll untangle what’s going on inside your head at a pace that feels right for you. Real progress happens when we feel safe with someone, and that’s what I aim to achieve.

Hi, I’m Ash, the founder of Sonder Therapies, based in Frome. Deciding to reach out for support can be a difficult but significant step and Sonder Therapies was created with that in mind. Sonder is the recognition that each person, from strangers on the street to loved ones in our lives, has a complex and meaningful story as vivid and complex as our own. This word captures my approach to therapy - a deep commitment to seeing you as a unique individual with your own experiences, dreams, and challenges. It is a reminder that healing often grows from understanding our connections to others and the world around us.

I offer a free 50‑minute consultation in the centre of Frome or online to see if working together feels right. Building trust can take time, and meeting in person will give you the best sense of who I am. I strive to be curious, non‑judgemental, honest and direct. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, relationship difficulties, dealing with loss, trauma or at a major turning point, therapy is your space to bring what matters most. It’s true that it often involves exploring the past, but the real challenge is learning how to live more fully in the present.

You're here because something needs to change. Maybe it's anxiety that won't quiet down, a relationship that feels increasingly distant, or a nagging sense that you're not living as your authentic self. Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you're taking this step. I help people break free from patterns that keep them stuck. Using an integrative approach tailored to your needs, we'll work together to understand the unconscious defenses and coping strategies—often rooted in past or family experiences—that may have once protected you but now hold you back. In our work together, you can expect: A warm, non-judgmental space where you feel

We can all struggle with our relationships, both sexually & emotionally, and talking about these problems can be particularly daunting. These struggles can take many forms, ranging from conflict difficulties, marital problems, pain during intercourse, a lack of desire, erectile dysfunction, sexual identity, childhood trauma affecting our adult relationships and many others. Taking the first step to seek out therapy is a difficult one, but one that could help to break the cycle we are currently playing out. I provide the same warmth and care to all members of society. LGBTQ+, kink and fetish friendly.

Relational psychodynamic therapy is a talking therapy that is collaborative and invites you to be curious.
Adults who may look capable on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck or under strain inwardly, or caught in repeating dynamics (internal, relational, emotional) are often drawn to my practice. This includes high-achieving professionals, creatives, and those navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, relationship and attachment issues, identity or self-worth difficulties, and major life transitions. I offer a thoughtful, relational space to explore both present difficulties and the deeper emotional and unconscious patterns beneath them, helping you move towards greater clarity, resilience and lasting change.

Thank you for taking the time to look my profile. My approach to working with you is about what you want to work on and achieve in therapy. Whether you are experiencing sadness, depression or a sense of disconnection, the human condition is characterised by a fundamental desire for connection and being heard. I work holistically on your whole self - the mind and body as one. This is firmly routed in my trainings and experience. I have a relaxed and informal approach, which supports your ability to be truly who you are, in a non-judgemental and confidential environment.

Our true nature is free, flowing, wild and energetic. Childhood traumas create defences, because our survival instinct was so strong it protected us at all costs. The cost is our experience now, disconnection from our-self, our body, others, life. Resulting in difficult relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and self harming behaviour. The decision to come to therapy is a brave one, it is a statement to yourself and the Universe that you no longer want to just survive, but to live with purpose, connection and aliveness. The therapeutic relationship encourages this life force energy, giving space for wholeness to grow.

What do most of us desire beneath it all?  To feel good, whole and comfortable within ourselves and in the relationships around us. That state of peaceful being resides within all of us but often past traumas and challenging life experiences have shaped who we have become, influencing the story of who we now think we are.  These beliefs often disconnect us from our true, best selves. Trauma happens, and often feelings of shame result. Living our lives wishing bad events never happened leave us feeling powerless but incorporating our past experiences in a way that does not debilitate, permits us to live with them, not ruled by them.

Overwhelmed, shutdown & anxiety, past/ present trauma or neurodivergence. You might feel overwhelmed, shut down, or constantly on edge, and talking about it hasn’t really helped. I support trauma-affected and neurodivergent adults and teens (Autism, ADHD, OCD) who feel anxious, disconnected, or pushed beyond their capacity. Many people come to me after trying therapy and still feeling stuck. We work gently with both mind and body so you can feel calmer, safer, and more like yourself again.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
