Hi, I’m Ash, the founder of Sonder Therapies, based in Frome. Deciding to reach out for support can be a difficult but significant step and Sonder Therapies was created with that in mind. Sonder is the recognition that each person, from strangers on the street to loved ones in our lives, has a complex and meaningful story as vivid and complex as our own. This word captures my approach to therapy - a deep commitment to seeing you as a unique individual with your own experiences, dreams, and challenges. It is a reminder that healing often grows from understanding our connections to others and the world around us.

Our counselling offers help in addressing the difficult areas of your life. This might involve loss and grief, relationship troubles or problems at work. Equally, there are times when the cause is not clear but you still feel something is wrong. Colleagues, family and friends can be a great source of support but it's not always easy to confide in those closest to you. At times like these, talking to someone who is not personally involved can make a difference. A professional counsellor will listen to you without making judgments and can help you find new resources within yourself.

I’m a qualified counsellor, group therapy facilitator and complementary health practitioner, with over 30 years of experience supporting people through life’s ups and downs. I trained in Counselling and Addiction at the University of Bath, and I bring not only my professional knowledge but also a wealth of real-life experience to my sessions. Sometimes life just feels too heavy. We can find ourselves worrying, feeling stuck, or battling with fears we don’t quite understand. In those moments, talking to someone outside of our usual circle can be a real gift—someone who will truly listen without judgement. That’s where I can help.

You're here because something needs to change. Maybe it's anxiety that won't quiet down, a relationship that feels increasingly distant, or a nagging sense that you're not living as your authentic self. Whatever brought you here, I'm glad you're taking this step. I help people break free from patterns that keep them stuck. Using an integrative approach tailored to your needs, we'll work together to understand the unconscious defenses and coping strategies—often rooted in past or family experiences—that may have once protected you but now hold you back. In our work together, you can expect: A warm, non-judgmental space where you feel

These struggles can take many forms, ranging from conflict difficulties, marital problems, pain during intercourse, a lack of desire, erectile dysfunction, sexual identity, childhood trauma affecting our adult relationships and many others.
Taking the first step to start therapy can be a very difficult one, so I make sure to provide an open, safe and calming space. During our time together I will aim to make you feel safe, validated and listened to. I use a combination of relational therapeutic work and real life tasks and exercises. To either undertake individually or with a partner/s.

With over a decade of experience in private practice and the NHS, I work with both individuals and couples seeking deeper healing, self-understanding, and meaningful change.
I believe healing happens not only through insight and conversation, but also through developing self-awareness, the conscious recognising of emotions, patterns of relating, and the ways we react to body memory or sensations. I offer a space that supports curiosity, self-reflection, emotional awareness, and the potential for lasting transformation.

I have over 17 years of experience helping adults and couples.
Therapy offers insight and understanding helping you work towards an awareness of the self. It gives the opportunity to discover inbuilt defence mechanisms that perhaps no longer serve the person you have become as a result of the traumas we all experience in life. Counselling can be a quiet, safe space to breathe and think about your life. Who you are, where you are going and what you wish to gain. It can be a space to grieve the losses you have experienced in your life and the changes that happen throughout your life.

Some things just need untangling. You don't need all the answers to be ready for this work, just a sense that the same patterns keep showing up. The same conflicts, the same pull toward what hurts, the same fog after loss or betrayal. You wonder: why do I keep ending up here? I'm not the kind of therapist who stays on the surface or walks on eggshells. I dig deep, at your pace, no fixed script. Whether this is your first time seeking support or you've been here before, you are in the right place. Clients leave feeling "human" again. Not broken but clearer, with a real path forward. Ready to stop circling? Let's untangle it together.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
