Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. We feel exhausted, stressed, unable to switch off, unsure of our direction, our identity, or there’s something just not quite right. We seem to find time for others, but there’s no time for ourselves or we’re unsure where to turn. Does this sound familiar? This is where I can help. Hi, I'm Gill and I am a Counsellor in the Frodsham area. I can offer you acceptance and a safe, supportive confidential space; where together at a pace guided by you, we can start to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and emotions and get to the bottom of what's weighing you down. Helping you rediscover you.

I work with people who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, overthinking, or life changes, and want to understand themselves more deeply. You may be used to coping on the surface but sense there’s more beneath. Together, we create a calm, non-judgemental space where you can go at your own pace, making sense of patterns, including how early experiences may have shape your adult self, easing anxiety, and building a steadier way forward. I draw on integrative counselling, including CBT-informed tools, to support both immediate relief and deeper insight.

If you’re looking for therapy at home because leaving the house is difficult, you may be dealing with anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, intrusive thoughts, OCD, trauma or phobias. These can make daily life feel restricted and exhausting. You might want clearer days and someone with solid mental‑health experience who understands how intense this can be, without jargon or pressure. Therapy needs to be practical, accessible and based on what you can manage right now.

We all struggle to make sense of experiences at times, especially when our life is in transition or we have unwanted changes. Perhaps you are going through the menopause, have a new job, responsibilities or are retiring, bereaved or divorced? Change can shake our sense of who we are. Therapy with me will provide the space to think about what is important to you, what do you value and what is stopping you living the life you want? Uncertainty often brings stress and anxiety. I know how this impacts the body and mind. I can talk through calming strategies. I want you to discover your vitality and life force again .

You look like you're holding it together on the outside. But inside something feels off. You're capable, thoughtful, used to being relied on but you feel anxious, empty, overwhelmed and misunderstood. Perhaps you’re questioning your direction, identity, or going through a loss or change. You’re worried about how others perceive you and want to understand why you fall back on the same patterns in relationships that lead to frustration, withdrawal or low self-esteem. You might be living by a set of rules you never consciously wrote and it’s driving self-doubt, guilt, or overthinking to the point you can’t switch off.

Are you struggling with intimacy, sexual confidence, or feeling disconnected from your partner or your own body? Difficulties with sex and relationships are incredibly common, but many people feel too ashamed or anxious to talk about them. This can be from a combination of how sex was talked about in your household, your sex education, early sexual experiences and unpleasant sexual experiences. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore what’s going on and begin to move forward.

You may look like you’re coping on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or quietly struggling inside. Perhaps you’re facing a life transition, questioning old patterns, or carrying something you’ve kept to yourself for a long time. My ideal client wants to understand themselves better — not to be fixed, but to feel more at ease, authentic, and in control. You don’t need clear goals; a willingness to explore at your own pace is enough. I often work with anxiety, low mood, addiction or unhealthy coping strategies, menopause-related changes, neurodiversity, and relationship difficulties. I offer a calm, non-judgemental space.

Think of me as someone you can talk to about anything—whether you’re feeling stressed, stuck, overwhelmed, or just need to vent. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling like “technically nothing is wrong in my life, but I’m just not happy. Is this really it?” You might be feeling anxious about the future, unhappy in your relationship, or waiting for a partner to change and realising it’s not happening. Perhaps you’re considering ending your marriage or making a big life change, but the fear of being alone or starting over feels overwhelming. These struggles can leave you feeling anxious, suffocated, taken for granted.

Combining counselling and coaching, I help you build self-trust, set healthy boundaries, and create more balanced, fulfilling relationships.

My work focuses on trauma, anxiety, stress, and the lasting effects of adversity across the lifespan. I am especially interested in how earlier experiences, attachment patterns, and current demands shape emotional wellbeing, relationships, and coping in the present. I offer psychologically informed, evidence-based support aimed not only at symptom relief, but at deeper understanding, resilience, and meaningful change.

“You don’t recognise yourself anymore, and that’s why I’m here.” I’m Sara Walker, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I work with women and couples who feel like something inside them has shifted. In midlife people often feel overwhelmed, unlike themselves, or stuck in patterns they can’t shift. Women may be navigating perimenopause, identity changes, emotional eating or alcohol coping. Some couples are facing relationship conflict or the fallout of betrayal and want someone to help them get back on track, and some clients want clarity and steadiness and to feel like themselves again. Does any of the above resonate?

Starting therapy can sometimes be a daunting experience. Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You can consider whether I am the right fit for you, and we can explore your goals and motivations for therapy, creating a collaborative plan for potentially working together. With lots of space for any questions you may have! I hold a strong desire to create space for individuals to share their voices, to feel seen and to be heard. Alongside my professional knowledge, I hope to draw from my personal journey to inspire warmth, authenticity, and connection within the therapeutic relationship we build.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
