I am an experienced psychotherapist in private practise, as well as teaching faculty on foundation and advanced counselling courses in Exeter, UK.
I firmly believe that we are fundamentally relational beings, ones that need security, understanding & care above all else. Real change comes not from trying to fix thinking patterns, self-concepts or the past, but in shifting relational dynamics in the here and now and finding new ways of being with another. This is what I focus on in therapy with my clients,

Has life begun to feel like a constant cycle of getting through the day, only to wake up and do it all again?
Does your mind feel stuck on repeat, replaying conversations, worrying about what comes next, or struggling to switch off even when you are exhausted? Has work started to feel like a prison of stress and anxiety, while people and social situations leave you irritated, drained, or wanting to be left alone?
Over time, this can begin to affect relationships, confidence, boundaries, and how you feel about yourself.

If you’re reading this, it probably means you’re thinking about starting therapy – maybe for the first time. Fair play for making it here. I know it won’t have been easy. Sadly, most guys don’t make it this far. But you did – so well done.

Whether it’s a long-standing issue or something that’s come up recently – addiction, anger, burnout, relationships, identity, porn or loss – we work together to understand what’s really going on for you.

I feel that reaching out to talk to someone can be difficult, we may feel a sense of the unknown and therefore I understand that the process may be challenging. On the other hand, you may have spoken to someone before or feel at ease. Either way, through our work together I feel you have the potential to grow, develop, heal and work towards achieving your goals. No experience or issue is too large for us to work through. Therapy provides a time and space for reflection, exploration, support and understanding that we may not readily have in our day to day lives. For this reason, I feel it can hold great value.

If you find yourself struggling with loneliness, disconnection, or feeling unheard, you’re not alone. Many individuals face challenges navigating life’s transitions: whether it's stepping into adulthood, choosing a career path, or forming relationships. These struggles often stem from a deeper sense of not being able to speak up or express ourselves fully. The voice that connects us to others, that allows us to call out for help or form meaningful bonds, can feel lost in moments of isolation, uncertainty, or self-doubt. If you feel silenced or struggle to express yourself, it can lead to withdraw, disconnect, or let fear take over.

At this point in your life when you are looking for therapy, you may have a hunch that the burden you carry has grown too much to hold on your own and somebody needs to hear you out. Many conversations heal, but the difference between a psychologist and a friend is that looking at things with the tools and theories we have at our disposal can help you define the problem, perhaps reframe it and then resolve it. That is the starting point for feeling better. You may wonder whether anything can really help, because everything may seem complicated and deep, but the wonder of your own self is waiting for you to unfold.

Substance Use Counsellors
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
