I am an online neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ affirming therapist. I help those with anxiety, depression, trauma, overwhelm and more. My sessions are a place where clients can unmask and be their authentic selves, and Autistic/ADHD clients can stim freely without judgment. I work with all neurotypes but my experience and training has enabled me to work effectively with neurodivergent children and adults (ASD/ADHD). I am aware of sensory overload, overstimulation and autistic burnout and for those struggling with eye contact I can easily adapt to suit clients needs.

In our modern society there are so many potential situations where life can become difficult without warning. Some people may have experienced difficulties throughout the whole of their lives, some may have experienced changes to their circumstances that have led to difficulties arising in their teens, 20s, 30s or further into adulthood. Some people may not even have been aware that their circumstances and experiences have led them to a place where they needed help. Whatever a person’s life experiences, everyone deserves an opportunity to heal, develop a stronger sense of self, or just understand themselves better.

Leila Barzey,
Counsellor and Supervisor.
For many the process of counselling is new and it can feel daunting. At times the decision to stay start therapy is prompted by a life event, recent or historic. Some people start therapy because of difficult feelings and thoughts; these can be life long and impact on relationships. Another reason for seeking help can be because of certain patterns of relating that are not helpful or because of a sense that personal needs are not being met. Whatever the reasons , acknowledging the difficulties and contacting a counsellor is the first step.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating emotional and relational patterns, including neurodivergent experience, anxiety, low mood, parenting stress, and family conflict, in ways that honour your unique story.
Clients sometimes wonder whether difference, cultural, religious, or otherwise, will get in the way. In my experience, what matters most is genuine curiosity, respect, and the ability to talk openly about what’s present. I won’t impose interpretations or focus on culture, family, or identity unless it feels relevant to you and to the work we’re doing.

I get it. I've been there. You seem confident, ambitious and are always there for others. People think you lead a great life but it doesn’t always feel that way. You got through childhood and teenage years and have lots to be grateful for. Despite all of your effort and achievement in life, something doesn't feel quite right. An anxious, nagging feeling sits in your mind and body and makes you uncomfortable in your own skin. You’ve ignored it and carried on but you have many questions. It’s frustrating and exhausting but something has prompted you to find answers. You want to be more relaxed within yourself and feel good enough.

I help new mums who feel like they've lost themselves since becoming a mother to understand what's really happening to them, reconnect with who they're becoming, and start thriving in motherhood, not just surviving.
You may look like you are coping on the outside, yet feel unlike yourself, anxious, lost, or unsure who you are becoming. This is a deeply human response to a life-altering transition. Alongside specialist training, I also draw on lived experience of a HG pregnancy, bringing a depth of understanding to the fear, hypervigilance, and body mistrust that can linger long after.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
