My primary training is in a holistic and transpersonal model of therapy, which means I work with the whole person - mind, body, feelings and hold the perspective that the problems we face also hold potential for something new to emerge. I use an integrative and relational approach and believe therapy should adapt to meet each client’s needs. This means our sessions might sometimes involve deep discussions on concepts and theories, while at other times, we may focus more on emotions, or imagery, or something which feels more ‘coach-like’ in style.

They often come because they don't feel heard in their day-to-day life, or need somewhere to explore emotions without fear of reactions or feelings of guilt.
I help clients by offering a trusting, safe non-judgmental platform wherein I work collaboratively with them, human to human, supporting them in exploring what makes them who they are, identifying their needs, becoming more attuned to their emotions and offering them the tools to better cope when life inevitably throws a curve ball as it so often does.

Hello, and welcome. As an experienced psychodynamic counsellor, I specialise in working with children and young people between the ages of 10-30. For children and young people, it can often be difficult to understand or express their emotions. This can lead to overwhelming, confusing or stuck feelings, perhaps resulting in low self-esteem and struggles with relationships with others, and themselves. Counselling and creative therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore emotions, and develop an understanding of their thought patterns whilst building communication skills and emotional resilience.

I support people with many things including stress, anxiety, low mood, trauma, anger and relationships, using NLP, Eye Movement Integration (a form of EMDR) and trance (a form of hypnotherapy).
I use NLP, EMI and generative trance to help you experience real change, not just talk. NLP shifts thought patterns and inner dialogue, EMI uses guided eye movements to reduce the emotional weight of past experiences, and generative trance is a relaxed state that helps you access calm, clarity and new ways forward.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
