I would like my clients to feel that they can talk to me about anything without fear of being criticised or judged.
I understand how hard it can be trying to decide which counsellor is right for you and to find a counsellor who you can trust and confide in and feel comfortable enough to be completely open with. We are all drawn to different counsellors and finding the right match is really important. It needs to be someone who you can relate to, who gets you, who listens to the detail and tries to help you uncover and understand how you are feeling in a patient and gentle way. I believe that establishing and building trust is key for the counselling relationship to develop.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with over ten years experience. I work full-time seeing individual adult clients and I hope that my approach is experienced as warm, non-judgmental and relational. Whatever has led you to look for a therapist today, my own view is that current persistent difficulties in life have their roots in the past. And I believe that it is only by getting underneath these symptoms and trying to understand where they come from that real and lasting change can take place. And permanent, positive change is what I strive for for all my clients.

bereavement, anxiety and life-limiting illness or conditions and I really enjoy working with couples and with groups.
Therapy is personal journey, unique to you and directed by what you want to achieve; I trained in Relational Transactional Analysis and use this modality to support my clients' growth in self awareness and understanding of the unconscious patterns that have been driving their behaviour. Many clients can't fully articulate what they want from therapy, only that they want things to be different, this is normal, and part of the process of therapy is working with you to discover what you want. On the way we aim to discover what blocks you from achieving your goals and support you in finding new paths to reach your goal.

In my mind therapy is not about fixing ourselves for we are not broken. I believe that in order to survive certain situations we may have adapted in ways that now leave us disconnected from ourselves and others.
The process of therapy is not always easy and it takes courage to look inwards, it can feel counterintuitive to reveal our vulnerabilities in the presence of another, but I wonder if we are ever truly free if we choose not to.

I can help with experiences of anxiety, depression, coping with life changes including loss and bereavement, and changing problematic coping strategies such as drug/alcohol use, or self-harm.
I work integratively, drawing on different approaches (psychodynamic, humanistic, interpersonal, mentalisation-based), but always with the therapeutic relationship at the centre. This relationship is the place we can develop the sense of safety, trust and collaboration necessary to explore, understand problems and make meaningful life changes.

I also have much experience working with complex PTSD, anxiety, addiction and complex ‘mind-body’ conditions.
It is a natural part of life to go through periods where it can feel really difficult to securely exist and to move through life comfortably, both in relation to body and mind. The extent to which this is experienced depends on the individual and their own set of life experiences, including personal and family history, ancestry, and each individual’s unique genetic-biological make-up. Thus, I incorporate all of these elements into my work.

As a Body Psychotherapist, I support people who're feeling lost or stuck in life to reconnect with their deep inner resources, enabling them to grow, change and find new solutions to life's challenges.
I tend to do committed, long term work with people, aiming to address problems at a core, existential level - supporting a lasting transformation of Mind, Body, Heart and Soul.
This includes unlocking your capacity for more aliveness, creativity, spontanaeity and the discovery of meaningful work - and the ability to enter into a mature loving relationship. My work also includes space for psychospiritual and ecological awareness.

I never thought I would need therapy. My relationship with my wife was great. I was the managing director of a successful company. Then life got tough and we found ourselves in crisis. Going to couple therapy together saved our marriage! We’ve been back to therapy many times to keep our relationship on course. What I learned from our couple therapy and my years of one-to-one psychotherapy transformed my marriage and my life. The results of the therapy impressed me so much I decided to change career. I wanted to offer the valuable insights and knowledge I had learned to other individuals and couples in distress.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
