There isn’t really an ideal client in terms of issues or problems. Therapy works whatever the presentation when the connection with the client/patient is a positive one and it becomes a mutual endeavor to feel better. The majority of clients present with wanting help with relationships either getting them or deepening them, this can include physical intimacy and sex and invariably the need to understand themselves in relationships. Many of my clients want to understand the meaning of sex to themselves and any sexual compulsivity that might be going on. People want to be understood and not shamed for their thoughts, actions feelings

Maybe you are struggling in relationships, or finding it difficult getting your needs met? You may have often felt that you don’t belong, or that you’re not supposed to be doing the work you do. Affairs, Sexuality , IVF, Money, Bereavement, Loss, Parenting, Mental Health, Sex , Lack Of Intimacy, Work Issues, Disabilities, Family Issues, Substance Misuse & Illness are just a handful of the issues clients share with me that are having a negative influence on their quality of life & relationship.
I am an experienced Relate Trained Relationship & Sex Therapist. I work with couples & individuals who are in an intimate relationship. I extend that service to clients who are single, plus couples & individuals in the process of separating, deciding Therapy to be a more appropriate service when mediation is considered unnecessary, but closure is. I promote clients to feel valued & respected by inviting them to tap into their own resources & ideas about what suits them to make changes to move forward, by providing impartial, unbiased & a neutral lens into the relationship.

I have a broad and in-depth experience of working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and rape, including those going through court proceedings, since 2008. I work through the therapy process, with the client, to understand how their experiences have shaped who they are today, to ultimately empower and make better choices seem more possible. I have supported many women who have experienced abortion, as well as miscarriage, stillbirth, fertility issues, IVF, egg donor through to adoption. Infidelity and sexuality are also areas where I can offer support and work towards acceptance and change.

Talking to an experienced and qualified psychosexual and relationship therapist can help you identify the difficulties you are experiencing, understand and explore different ways you can overcome these challenges and move forward. I aim to create a confidential and safe place where you feel able to talk about these issues in a non-shaming way. I am a sex positive therapist and I am comfortable exploring alternative sexual interests.

I have many years experience working with internet sex offenders.
My clients are often under investigation by the police for downloading illegal images of children or for chatting online to children. They are usually looking for an answer to "how and why did I get into doing this" and "how do I ensure that I dont do it again". Some clients may have an attraction to children but the majority do not. Instead they have become addicted to porn and moved into a variety of illegal images as they get out of control. Often the partner and family group also seek help with understanding and coming to terms with the not insignificant consequences of this crime.

Sex Therapy Counsellors

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
