With 25 years of experience in counselling & psychotherapy I aim to help couples & individuals understand emotions and how to get more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

We sometimes find it difficult to cope with the things that life throws at us, be it relationship issues, health problems, self esteem and self doubt, anxiety, depression, panic attacks or phobias. Sometimes we just need a safe space where we can explore and talk about the things that worry us with someone who can help us find our own way through the struggle in an empathic and totally non-judgmental way. I am a fully integrative psychotherapist offering counselling and hypnotherapy in a calm, mindful and supportive environment.

You may feel capable and organised in most of your life, yet food is the one place things quietly unravel. Mornings start with good intentions; by evening you're eating in a way that doesn't match what you want, and tomorrow you begin again. Struggles with food are rarely about willpower — and rarely only about feelings. In midlife, as hormones shift and what used to work stops working, eating gets tangled up with dopamine, ADHD traits and a nervous system that never quite rests. Or the food noise has gone quiet on a GLP-1, and the old patterns are still underneath.

Life today seems to be overloaded by a variety of stress in many spheres of existence. What should be enjoyable and fulfilling sometimes turns out to be the very cause of suffering. In the midst of the busy-ness of life, we do not take the time to address this suffering and instead criticise and blame ourselves or others. This could potentially leave us feeling confused and ashamed. Shame does not heal the pain of suffering. Every human being has a need to be understood, accepted and validated because the human brain is wired to love and be loved.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, perhaps struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or a sense that something isn’t quite right. I work with adults over 18 who are facing challenges affecting their mental and emotional wellbeing. There is no one-size-fits-all in counselling, so sessions are tailored to your needs, preferences, and pace. Counselling provides a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space to pause, feel heard, and explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we can uncover insights, build self-awareness, and support greater clarity, self-acceptance, and understanding of self.

I looked for a counsellor myself, long before I trained to be one, so I know how overwhelming it is to scroll through profile after profile, especially when you already know you need help but not where to start. Here's the simple version: it starts with me just listening to you - something you may never have genuinely experienced before. No judgement, just an opportunity for you to be truly you. I specialise in trauma, anxiety and identity, including LGBTQIA+ experience, though I'm not limited to these. My rates are sensible for this expensive world right now - being listened to by a professional should be as affordable as possible.

I am a qualified counsellor and supervisor. I am currently working online and in person. I work with males and females over the age of 18. I prefer to work weekly with people if possible as fortnightly doesn't offer the same benefits, but have and do work fortnightly where finances are a real issue. Many of my clients are long term clients who have experienced trauma in childhood. I also work with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, domestic abuse issues. perfectionism, emotional enmeshment with a parent, neurodiversity experiences, loneliness and isolation, issues around retirement and aging.

Weight Loss Counsellors
What is the relationship between weight management and mental health?
Mental health can be significantly influenced by one's physical health, so overall improvements in one's quality of life as a result of improved physical functioning from weight loss can have an overall positive impact on an individual's mental health and allow them to engage more readily in everyday activities. In addition, many strategies used to manage weight, such as exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, are also associated with reducing the symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. Individuals may also benefit from the improved self-esteem and self-efficacy that can come with successful weight management.

What is the psychological approach to losing weight?
While there are no specific therapy modalities specifically for weight loss, common psychological therapies can be highly effective in helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes. This may be called the "psychological approach" to weight loss because it does not rely on physical interventions, such as medication or weight loss surgery, to help clients lose weight. Weight loss counselling can be used in addition to or instead of such physical interventions. Some clients simply seek therapy to address the challenges that may accompany weight loss in general, including negative thoughts surrounding their body, disordered eating patterns, or difficulty completing daily tasks as a result of their weight challenges. In such cases, therapists will often utilise behavioural coaching or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to help clients understand how their thoughts may be influencing their diet and physical activity patterns.

What type of therapy is commonly used in weight loss counselling?
Weight loss counseling often involves a combination of therapy and psychoeducation. Common techniques used by weight loss counselors include journalling, thought diaries, and other Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies that encourage clients to consider how their feelings about their weight loss impact their mental health. Weight loss counsellors may also teach clients mindfulness exercises, which can be used by clients during and after eating to be more aware of physical cues from their body surrounding eating. Some clients looking for weight loss therapy may also benefit from group therapy approaches, which utilise the power of social connection and accountability to help clients adhere to their weight loss plan.

Is therapy recommended for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery?
While therapy is not a requirement for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery, many individuals undergoing weight loss surgery may benefit from seeing a counsellor. Prior to surgery, counsellors can help clients decide whether surgical weight loss is a good fit for them and assist in surgery preparation. Post-surgery, counsellors can assist clients with the psychological component of maintaining their weight loss, as well as help clients navigate any postoperative pain. Throughout the surgical process, therapists can help clients process body-image challenges that may come with dramatic changes in weight, as well as manage symptoms of anxiety or depression that may accompany the major life changes bariatric surgery can bring.
