I am qualified at Level 6 trauma counselling, after qualifying at Level 4, I noticed that a lot of clients who came to me with anxiety; depression; low self esteem and a number of other issues, had one thing in common, they had experienced trauma in their life. This led me to want to learn more about trauma and its impact, and the safest way of working with those who have suffered trauma. My way of working is integrative and I follow the three phase model of working, beginning with safety and stabilisation to ensure you are ready to process your memories.

Life today seems to be overloaded by a variety of stress in many spheres of existence. What should be enjoyable and fulfilling sometimes turns out to be the very cause of suffering. In the midst of the busy-ness of life, we do not take the time to address this suffering and instead criticise and blame ourselves or others. This could potentially leave us feeling confused and ashamed. Shame does not heal the pain of suffering. Every human being has a need to be understood, accepted and validated because the human brain is wired to love and be loved.

There are many reasons why we find ourselves in search of a therapist. You might have come to a point in life where you are in search of answers that you would like to explore together in therapy. Perhaps you have noticed patterns over time that you would like to understand better. It could be that you have come to a realisation that something just needs to change or that things just aren't working anymore in the way that they used to.

Our earliest relationships have an effect on the relationship we have with ourselves, with those who are important to us, with society, and the wider world in which we live. If carers are unable to give the care that met our changing needs in childhood, if our parents were unable to attune to us, our emotional resilience can be insufficient. Now grown we can feel we list from one crisis to another, have relationships that cause unhappiness and feel life is really difficult and everything goes wrong. Our defence mechanisms, once vital for survival, are now additional problems that can make life almost too difficult to bear.

We seek psychological help for many reasons. Not only can psychological therapy help when life feels intolerably difficult, but it can also make an “ok” life more fulfilling. Therapy can help to reduce emotional suffering, support change, and promote personal growth. It is a collaborative process and the insight gained can help us look at life from a different perspective and enable us to respond differently to life’s challenges. People often seek support when they are facing life transitions or feel stuck in their lives.

I have practiced as a coach and DBT therapist, holding a diploma in EUPD and couples therapy, along with training in trauma, personality disorders, and relationships.
Life can feel heavy when you’re exhausted from "keeping it together" while navigating trauma, anxiety, or the complexities of neurodivergence. Perhaps you’re struggling with the weight of masking, or maybe past experiences are showing up in your body as tension, shame, or hypervigilance. You might simply feel "out of sorts" or stuck in a cycle of survival that leaves you feeling misunderstood. I offer a gentle, trauma-informed space where you don’t have to explain yourself or be anyone other than who you are. Whether we are exploring childhood trauma, cultural identity, or the day-to-day challenges of ADHD and mood, all at your pace

Welcome, I’m Lucy, an Integrative Counsellor specialising in domestic abuse, trauma and addiction support.
If you’ve experienced domestic abuse, trauma, or addiction, you might feel constantly on edge; walking on eggshells, overthinking everything, or struggling to trust your own judgement.
You may be used to holding things together on the outside while inside feeling overwhelmed, numb, or alone. Sometimes alcohol or substances become a way to cope, even if part of you wants things to change. Sometimes we know a relationship is no longer serving us but we don't feel able to leave.
If this resonates, you’re not alone.

Personality Disorders Counsellors
What are the common treatment options for personality disorders?
Personality disorders are typically treated with psychotherapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication. Therapy can help people with personality disorders develop skills to tolerate difficult emotions, navigate interpersonal relationships, and solidify their sense of self. Medications can treat symptoms that co-occur with the disorder, such as depression, anger, aggression, and impulsivity.
When to seek treatment for personality disorders?
Even though treatment for personality disorders can be an uphill battle, it’s best to seek help if you suspect that you or a loved one is struggling with one, because personality disorders can create substantial problems in life. Symptoms depend on the specific disorder, but overall signs of personality disorders include consistent difficulty maintaining close relationships, dramatic variations in self-esteem, and an unstable sense of identity.
How long does therapy take for personality disorders?
The timeline for treating personality disorders isn’t as clear-cut as it is for other disorders. Change can be difficult, taking from around one year to five, 10, or more. The key is finding a therapist who has extensive experience treating the relevant disorder. For example, a psychologist who specialises in narcissistic personality disorder has specific communication strategies that allow them to sustain the relationship and be more effective with narcissistic patients.
Can therapy help people with personality disorders?
Research suggests that for those who are motivated to address concerns or interpersonal conflict related to a personality disorder, therapy is far more effective than no treatment, and that most people in therapy see improvements. However, since personality disorders involve entrenched elements of identity, they are less responsive to treatment than are other mental health conditions. Finding an expert who has extensive experience working with a given personality disorder is one factor that increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
