I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where we will explore the past to make sense of the present, cultivating awareness and coping skills to help you manage what can feel unmanageable. My aim is to support you in a confidential professional manner and together we will try to understand what is going on for you and find some resolve. I work psychodynamically and as an EMDR practitioner I thread this into my work.

Hi, I offer CBT and person centred counselling this means I accept and support you to explore ways to help overcome uncomfortable or traumatic emotions you may be experiencing. I have also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy which can help support and reframe thinking. We may have experiences in life that can be overwhelming or we are unable to make sense of the events that may have happened to us. Asking for help can be the first step for us to overcome or understand how we are feeling and the repetitive behaviour's or thoughts that can keep us in a unhealthy cycle, working together allows us to find heathy self-awareness.

Sitting in the same room with a therapist for an hour each week doesn't suit everyone. If you're drawn to nature, then outdoor therapy could be a good fit for you. Many people find therapy outdoors less intimidating than sitting face to face, other people enjoy the freedom of expression that being able to move about brings. Connecting with animals, plants and the weather can be soothing, and encourages greater depth of awareness of our wilder selves underneath the conditioning. Some experiences need a more-than-human presence, too; I work with identity, life transitions, grief, fears, self esteem, navigating change, death.

I help young to mid-life adults to work out how to balance careers, relationships, and their own sense of who they want to be.
Therapy can help you feel less tangled up in comparing yourself to others, and more at ease with where you are. I'll help you develop healthier ways to think and cope. We'll look at how your past shapes your present, so you can make choices that are more aligned with your values and who you really are - not who you think you "should be".

I know the past couple of years have been really difficult times for everybody and there have been many changes in how we meet and talk to each other. Certainly in EMDR treatment, we have had to make rapid changes in how we think and work in order to remain available to those in need. My own experience in working online with life's complex and diverse difficulties has found that positive and effective work can equally be achieved via video sessions and has enabled me to work with so many who would otherwise find difficulty in travelling perhaps due to time, distance, work or other factors. Please email me if you wish to know more

My clients will be people who have spent years being strong for others. You may come from service or high‑pressure roles, or be young people or family members carrying stress quietly. You may often feel isolated, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourselves, unsure how to switch off or share what you’re holding. You may want clarity, steadiness, and a place where you can finally stop performing, acknowledge the weight you carry, and begin to understand what you truly need.

Welcome, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them" Maya Angelou. Are you thinking past experiences are impacting on your life now, your relationships, family, or your work, and feeling stuck. Perhaps there is trauma in the past: a childhood experience when no-one was there to understand, a single terrifying incident, bullying, boarding school, or have/are experiencing an abusive relationship. Would you like to understand and find resolution and hope to face the future with confidence and resilience and improve your relationships.

Through therapy you can find out things about yourself that will help you understand what is going on for you and help to develop your own understanding and gradually learn more about your innermost parts and lead the way to greater acceptance of yourself. This is awareness and will help you feel more empowered to choose to do things differently. I believe this work is about being true to yourself rather than being who you think you 'should' be and to reclaim those parts of you that have been denied. It is both challenging and rewarding work leading to emotional healing and growth.

I work with adults experiencing a wide range of life issues, such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma and relationships issues.
Hi, I’m Emma and I understand life can be challenging, confusing, overwhelming, stressful and often very difficult at times. Sometimes life can just get on top of us, and sometimes something happens to trigger us. Either way, you don’t have to manage this on your own. I understand that coping with the pressures of daily life alongside your own internal struggles can be difficult. I can help you to work through your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and emotions; to help you make sense of your world. I use an integrative approach, I use a range of methods to assist me in my practice, selecting those which are best suited for you.

I'm David, a Counsellor in Whitstable. Do you need to talk through big, complex and painful feelings? Maybe you just need somewhere to be authentic, to let everything out – a break from trying to be OK. If you need support with bereavement, loss or the impact of a traumatic event then I provide compassionate and professional counselling to help find a way forward.

Mental and emotional distress are incredibly common within the demands of modern life and are not signs that there is something inherently wrong with us - only that we are presently struggling to cope. Counselling is your chance to explore what is troubling you.

You may be considering psychotherapy because you have a specific concern or are experiencing ‘symptoms’ that you want to address. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, or a general sense of unease and feel life is meaningless or joyless. Perhaps you are facing some significant change in your life and unsure what to do. Or maybe you are feeling stuck finding yourself in the same place, repeating the same patterns, despite your efforts to change things. Or perhaps you want to get to know yourself more deeply and experience life more fully.

FAQ - About Adult Counselling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioural therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.

How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists in the UK hold various credentials depending on their training and regional requirements. Counsellors and Psychotherapists registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) receive the designation MBACP and their qualifications and practice are overseen by BACP. Many Psychologists registered with the British Psychological Society receive the title of Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), signifying that they have completed postgraduate training and supervised practice. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.

How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
