Counselling in Faversham
Through therapy you can find out things about yourself that will help you understand what is going on for you and help to develop your own understanding and gradually learn more about your innermost parts and lead the way to greater acceptance of yourself. This is awareness and will help you feel more empowered to choose to do things differently. I believe this work is about being true to yourself rather than being who you think you 'should' be and to reclaim those parts of you that have been denied. It is both challenging and rewarding work leading to emotional healing and growth.

Welcome, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them" Maya Angelou. Are you thinking past experiences are impacting on your life now, your relationships, family, or your work, and feeling stuck. Perhaps there is trauma in the past: a childhood experience when no-one was there to understand, a single terrifying incident, bullying, boarding school, or have/are experiencing an abusive relationship. Would you like to understand and find resolution and hope to face the future with confidence and resilience and improve your relationships.

Your friends are settling down, changing jobs, moving house, starting families - and you're wondering where you fit. Maybe life hasn't quite gone according to plan, or you've ticked all the boxes but still feel something's missing. I help young to mid-life adults to work out how to balance careers, relationships, and their own sense of who they want to be.
You might just be getting through the days, showing up to work unmotivated or saying yes to things you don't really want to do. There's a niggling sense that you're supposed to have hit certain milestones by now, and it's exhausting pretending everything's fine.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or experiencing trauma. You may come from service or high‑pressure roles, be a young person, or family members to any of the aforementioned and carrying stress quietly. You may often feel isolated, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, unsure how to switch off or share what you’re holding. You may want clarity, steadiness, and a place where you can finally stop performing, acknowledge the weight you carry, and begin to understand what you truly need.

Sitting in the same room with a therapist for an hour each week doesn't suit everyone.
If you're drawn to nature, then outdoor therapy could be a good fit for you. Many people find therapy outdoors less intimidating than sitting face to face, other people enjoy the freedom of expression that being able to move about brings. Connecting with animals, plants and the weather can be soothing, and encourages greater depth of awareness of our wilder selves underneath the conditioning.
Some experiences need a more-than-human presence, too; I work with identity, life transitions, grief, fears, self esteem, navigating change, death.

I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where we will explore the past to make sense of the present, cultivating awareness and coping skills to help you manage what can feel unmanageable. My aim is to support you in a confidential professional manner and together we will try to understand what is going on for you and find some resolve. I work psychodynamically and as an EMDR practitioner I thread this into my work.

Hi, I offer CBT and person centred counselling this means I accept and support you to explore ways to help overcome uncomfortable or traumatic emotions you may be experiencing. I have also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy which can help support and reframe thinking. We may have experiences in life that can be overwhelming or we are unable to make sense of the events that may have happened to us. Asking for help can be the first step for us to overcome or understand how we are feeling and the repetitive behaviour's or thoughts that can keep us in a unhealthy cycle, working together allows us to find heathy self-awareness.

I know the past couple of years have been really difficult times for everybody and there have been many changes in how we meet and talk to each other. Certainly in EMDR treatment, we have had to make rapid changes in how we think and work in order to remain available to those in need. My own experience in working online with life's complex and diverse difficulties has found that positive and effective work can equally be achieved via video sessions and has enabled me to work with so many who would otherwise find difficulty in travelling perhaps due to time, distance, work or other factors. Please email me if you wish to know more

Hello, I’m Iris. I’m an integrative counsellor and therapist working with adults who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stretched, burnt out, or worn down from holding things together. Many people I work with appear to cope on the outside while feeling anxious, unsettled, or stuck beneath the surface. Therapy can foster a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you by exploring the root causes of some of your difficulties which might be linked to events in the past. Relationship difficulties can be the cause of much distress and unhappiness. Past experiences can have their imprint in the present and can trigger old and repetitive patterns of behaviour which can leave one feeling stuck and in pain. Pursuing therapy as a couple can offer the opportunity to explore hurt and angry feelings in a safe and supportive setting.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
