I am an experienced and fully qualified therapeutic counsellor for
children
and adolescents aged 4-19 years old, and provide counselling in a confidential, non judgemental and safe setting. My therapy room is based in Farnborough and I am able to offer support and relief from the overwhelming and anxious feelings that can leave a
child
or adolescent feeling vulnerable. I have found that through the therapy process,
children
and young people can develop their communication skills and confidence levels, as well as learning how to cope with difficult feelings.

Hello and welcome to my profile. It can really take courage to recognise and admit there is something that needs 'dealing' with and then having the task of seeking out a counsellor. I understand that and as part of my counsellor training I had to go through a similar process, finding the right counsellor to complete my course. Who do you normally talk to? What depth do you go to when you talk? Sometimes we don't want to say what is really going on but with me you can. You can really talk to me and I want to be able help. I want to be the person you feel safe enough and trust to talk about whatever it is that concerns you.

Couples Counselling will help you to understand your emotions and discover a new intimacy. I talk to couples every day who are wanting more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

Maybe you are wondering which event or events in your life have most affected how you feel. There could be relationships, past, present, and future which play on your mind. Do you want healthier relationships? Do you wonder if the way you feel gets in the way of you getting what you want out of life or living the life you want? Starting therapy can be daunting so it’s important that you identify a therapist and an approach to working that feels right for you. As an art psychotherapist, I am open, honest and inclusive with considerable experience supporting
children
, adolescents and young adults in schools and community settings. My approach to working is psychodynamic - I’m interested in how past events may have affected you, both consciously and unconsciously, influencing the way you think, feel and behave. Should talking about your experiences be too difficult, I may encourage you to try different creative techniques as an alternate means of expression.

However you are feeling, you are most welcome in my therapy room! I have been working with adults, couples, parents and
children
for over 22 years. If you are struggling, or your
child
is, if your problems won't go away or they feel too big, I can help. Sometimes in therapy we work on thoughts and feelings, and other times behaviour (finding ways to do things differently), and sometimes we reflect, process, and make sense of the past. I perviously specialised in autistic spectrum conditions and have a wealth of experience in assessing complex and difficult-to-diagnose cases.

It can be such a worry to know your
child
is struggling.
As a specialist mental health therapist I work with a range of difficulties that trouble
children
, such as anxiety, stress, low mood, fears, grief, school problems, low self esteem/confidence. Therapy offers
children
a space to make sense of their thoughts/feelings, work through their worries and find healthier ways to express themselves and manage the difficulties they experience at school and home. I help
children
to build their emotional resilience, a positive mindset and develop ways to help them feel calm, content and confident to cope with stress and life worries.

I support
Children
and Young People with counselling through face to face conversations, therapeutic exploration and / or play. This enables a
child
or young person to express, explore and make sense of events and experiences that are hard to verbalise or articulate. It is a non-directive and client-centred approach to therapy that allows the client the opportunity to play out, talk about and work through feelings and emotions within a safe and therapeutic environment.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
