You may feel depressed, anxious or alone in your problems & fears. Perhaps you struggle with not feeling ‘good enough’ or getting past trauma. I’m here to listen, really understand you/what happened/is still happening, with empathy and no judgement. But I’m also here to help change happen - which can mean challenging & changing unhealthy, unkind views of yourself or just helping reframe the past. The therapy process is often difficult because we feel laid open but I'll be with you & it works! I’ll give you practical tools too to help affect change. With time and patience therapy can help you lead a happier, healthier life.

CBT and EMDR have a good evidence base in helping people with trauma related symptoms/PTSD/traumatic bereavement, or where people need to process painful memories from the past.
I am a BABCP accredited CBT therapist, and an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner. If you're struggling with difficulties related to traumas or painful memories from the past, then I can help you to make sense of these and to understand why you're feeling overwhelmed. We can then process the painful memories and emotions to help you to feel calmer and more content. I have a particular interest in helping people with anxiety disorders (like OCD, social anxiety, health anxiety). I will help you to understand what keeps you stuck, and to build the confidence and skills to challenge yourself, and live the kind of life that you want to.

Sometimes we have an idea as to why and sometimes we are at a loss.
I worked for ten years as a support worker and this work led to an observation that knowing what the difficulty may be is not the same as knowing what to do to overcome it. It is this that informs my therapeutic work now. I aim to provide a space where you can feel safe to be as you are, however you are, and with whatever you bring or discover.

Through therapy we can explore whatever you bring, such as but not limited to trauma, abuse (of all kinds), identity issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders & loss.
I'm an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor which means that I am trained in and draw from the three main schools of thought and tailor my approach to you; not applying any particular method but rather meeting you where you are, and going from there. As there is no one set way of being, I believe there is no one set way of working therapeutically with another, so our therapeutic relationship is important. I offer a free 20 minute consultation to look at what brings you to therapy, any queries you may have, and to see how we 'fit' and how you feel about the prospect of beginning sessions with me.

You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, bereavement, relationship problems, depression, addiction, low self-esteem or something you can’t quite grasp but that is troubling you.
Counselling Works Because… Counselling works in part simply because the act of talking with someone who is not a family member or in your immediate circle, can be very helpful in gaining a new perspective about what is going on for you. The benefit of a neutral confidential space is something I regularly hear from clients I work with. In addition my approach is to ask questions and ‘thought experiments’ that can assist you in finding your own creative solutions to whatever is troubling you.

Bereavement Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
