You may look like you're coping on the outside, yet inside you feel exhausted, disconnected, or like you've lost yourself. Perhaps anxiety, self-doubt, people pleasing, past experiences, or constant overthinking are keeping you stuck. My clients are often women who have lost touch with themselves through grief, loss, relationship challenges, years of putting everyone first or life transitions such as peri menopause. Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to face it alone.

Sometimes we may feel that everything we experience in life is difficult, challenging or simply doesn't make sense anymore. The amount of pressure we need to handle every day combined with all these repressed and unprocessed memories of things we never dealt with can easily lead to many psycho-physical issues. We all possess physical, mental/emotional and sexual healths. When our physical health needs attention, we go to see a doctor. Sadly, we often disregard the latter. We think we can handle it all, where in fact we are getting weaker, less resilient to adversities and prone to negative feelings & reactions.

I'm an experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained to MA and Doctoral level respectively with adults and children and adolescents. I'm also a visiting lecturer at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I have experience of working across the age range with a wide variety of mild, moderate and severe presenting problems. Some people see me because they're very unhappy, traumatised, distressed, worried, dissatisfied or find that relationships with others are difficult. Others come because they want to understand themselves better and they're curious about their internal world and relational patterns.

Something brought you here. It might be difficult to put into words yet. Perhaps you're carrying something that others don't fully understand. I believe we all have an innate ability to find our direction but sometimes, due to either loss, bereavement, trauma, difficult relationships, or life changing situations, we need support getting back on track. You don't need to have everything worked out before coming to counselling. Many clients tell me they feel heard, understood and accepted, without pressure. Together, we can make sense of what you're experiencing, and find a way forward that feels right for you.

Ultimately, good therapy should make change: reactions, behaviours, difficult aspects of self, attitudes/beliefs about yourself or how you carry your story. I love work to with clients who are prepared to jump in, take risks and be proactive - this is the way to ensure real change. I jump in too, working with body and mind in a practical, energetic way. I view the best wisdom as something that can directly be applied to life. A supervisee described me as "real, relational, practical and not floaty/wispy". I like to incorporate psychoeducation and relevant theoretical information. I don't sit on my hands or allow unhelpful silences.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected, perhaps repeating patterns that are difficult to understand or change. You might be navigating loss, transition, relationship difficulties or the lasting effects of earlier experiences. I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and find a different way forward. Together, we explore how present difficulties may connect with earlier experience, relationships and patterns held in the body, bringing mindful curiosity and compassion to what emerges.

Core Process Psychotherapy combines a spiritual, buddhist understanding of the self with western psychodynamic theory to support self-enquiry.
Mindfulness-Based Core Process Psychotherapy is a relational and embodied enquiry in which we can together explore how it is that you ‘do’ you. I offer a setting of compassion, acceptance and non-judgemental listening, and value these qualities in our working relationship. I am interested in what your experience is and, as you can begin to feel understood, in how you might begin to express and experience yourself differently. Having a place to bring yourself, your worries, your issues, can be a relief and can be deeply rewarding as we honour the feelings that move inside you and allow your own innate wisdom to find it's way.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
