I specialise in assisting adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression and anger related to family, social situations or work. My role is to help you gain understanding and find solutions so that you can once again cope with stress, enjoy home and work relationships, and feel a renewed sense of yourself and purpose in life. I am a qualified psychotherapist practicing face to face in Exeter/Crediton (and online when needed). I offer a tiered 'equalising' fee structure which invites those on higher incomes to pay more in order that I can offer a reduced rate to those who cannot afford the standard rate. I am a fully qualified and insured counsellor, working within an ethical code of conduct laid down by NCPS. During our first session we will create a working agreement and begin to establish the foundations of a safe and reliable relationship. Change is possible. I cannot fix another’s pain, but I can support, enable and encourage clients in their own journey of deepening understanding and self-acceptance, utilising the skills and experience I have gathered over the years in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, issues around low self esteem and trauma.

Hello, I'm Jade. I'm a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists) Therapist in Training. I offer a warm space where we can explore, together, your reasons for accessing Psychotherapy. I like to think about the benefits of Psychotherapy a little bit like building a house extension, but needing to lay a foundation first. Our original foundation might need some stronger materials or extra scaffolding. Psychotherapy can help to provide that scaffolding, through processing your feelings in a supportive environment. This allows for an exploration of who you are so that you can build your extension, with materials that you choose.

Clients generally come to me when they are struggling with some aspect of their emotions, thoughts or behaviour. My aim is to help my client with accepting or changing some aspect of these three areas. Every client comes with unique issues and from my seat I view the issues as one, "a block in the road to wellness". I am keenly aware that all clients come with individual goals and I am here to help. Many of my clients use the phrase “I just want to feel better". This is my hope for everyone who engages with me in therapy. “TO FEEL BETTER” I offer confidentiality, openness and transparency at all times.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
