I'm a psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained to MA and Doctoral level respectively with adults and children and adolescents.
I offer fifty minute sessions, at least once weekly. Sessions are patient, exploratory and we build an understanding of what's occurring over time. Children can use play materials provided by me as a means of understanding the internal world of the child. Young adults may draw or talk and adults usually talk about what they are experiencing.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand. On the surface you might be coping, but underneath life feels heavy, confusing, or “too much.” You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, ADHD-related challenges, or navigating a life transition. You’re not looking for quick fixes, you want clarity, understanding, and a way to make sense of what’s happening so you can feel steadier, more balanced, and more in control of your life with sustainable long term change.

Do you feel you have spent a long time coping, managing, and holding things together for everyone else. You are capable, perceptive, and deeply attuned to the needs of others, yet you carry an inner sense that something in your own emotional world isn’t quite landing. Many of my clients have learned to be the strong one, the dependable one, the one who doesn’t make a fuss. And despite all that outward steadiness, they feel disconnected from themselves, from their feelings, or from the people they care about. They come to therapy because they’re tired of surviving. They want to understand themselves, not just keep going

My own journey to becoming a therapist began with the need to make sense of my own situations and self. The beliefs I had about myself and the world as I saw it, and the beliefs I had about how the world saw me. I bring lived experience of managing mental challenges and addictions. I understand that our unique life experiences shape how we think, feel, and relate to the world and one another. Amazing things unfold when humans, together, face the problems of living with openness and kindness and without pressure to perform. This is the essence of therapy.

Ultimately, good therapy should make change: reactions, behaviours, difficult aspects of self, attitudes/beliefs about yourself or how you carry your story. I love work to with clients who are prepared to jump in, take risks and be proactive - this is the way to ensure real change. I jump in too, working with body and mind in a practical, energetic way. I view the best wisdom as something that can directly be applied to life. A supervisee described me as "real, relational, practical and not floaty/wispy". I like to incorporate psychoeducation and relevant theoretical information. I don't sit on my hands or allow unhelpful silences.

I use DDP and Theraplay, play therapy, Child EMDR and psychoanalytic child psychotherapy.
You might be concerned about your child for a number of reasons. The stress of life, Depression Anxiety Trauma or behavoural issues are all signs that something is needing attention. Parents need to understand their children and to respond in ways that might be more effective. Giving children space to express and communicate from their own perspective can also be of help. I have many years experience of working in the NHS in CAMHS and want to be able to reach those who are not offered a service or where the wait is very long.

My ideal client is one of complexity; I plan on to enrol onto a Doctorate becoming a counselling psychologist. I am a qualified counsellor and my knowledge base started 15 years ago when I fell ill. I have had an eventful life, including heart problems, strokes and many other issues. Through therapies, self help and determination I am happy with my life and I would love to share my knowledge. I have specialised in complex bereavement over the past 6 years seeing clients face to face and supporting them through the hard times. There is a need for more LGBT counsellors that understand and help.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
