Hoarding Counselling in Exeter
Many of my clients come to me during moments when life feels unbearably heavy — after a bereavement, a relationship ending, or the painful impact of domestic abuse. They’re looking for somewhere gentle, steady, and safe to lay down what they’ve been carrying. I offer a warm, compassionate space where their story is honoured and their pace is respected. Rooted in person‑centred counselling, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to gently support clients in feeling understood, held, and able to move toward a sense of hope again.

I'm Hannah and I am an integrative therapist specialising in using eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to treat a wide range of psychological issues. I am highly trained in psychotherapy, neuroscience and trauma and believe that our current issues can often be traced back to early adverse experiences in childhood. Compared to standard talking therapy EMDR generally takes a shorter amount of time to get to the root cause of the issue. Rather than just dealing with symptom management (like CBT), EMDR therapy works directly with the cause of your distress.

I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years and I realise that therapy can be a new and unusual approach for people. I often work with folk who are finding things hard, and need a neutral form of support. I can offer direct support, teaching and practice in cognitive and behavioural techniques, or relaxation and mindfulness ideas to help. The goals that a person wants to work towards might be crystal clear to them, or they might refine these as we work together.

We specialise in trauma-responsive talking therapy designed to uncover the emotional roots beneath anxiety, relationship struggles, overwhelm, and patterns that seem impossible to change. People come to therapy for many different and important reasons. For some it is to discuss difficult and emotional experiences, while for others its to have a space in their week to reflect and make time to check-in with themselves. I ask all my clients to come with an open-mind as therapy can take you on a journey of self-discovery. I have worked with many clients with varying degrees of personal difficulties; severe and mild distress including depression, anxiety, suicide, low-self-esteem, earlier life trauma, PTSD, relational difficulties and many more.

My ideal client is one of complexity: someone whose experiences cannot be understood through a single label or a standardised approach. Many of my clients live with trauma, PTSD, neurodiversity, psychosis, dissociation, bereavement or deeply rooted emotional and relational patterns. Some have tried therapy before but felt only part of their experience was understood. I offer a place where the whole person can be explored, not reduced to a diagnosis, and where therapy is shaped around the individual. I am comfortable working where the picture is complicated and obvious answers have not been enough.
