Hello, my name is Judith.
It's important to find a counsellor or psychotherapist who is a good fit for you, so I will try to give you some idea of who I am and how I work, in this brief space.
Sometimes life can be painful and difficult. You may feel overwhelmed, confused or stuck; perhaps you want some kind of change. I believe we are more than our thoughts and feelings; we have a soul. What our soul needs is not always clear to us and as a result we may struggle. If you feel there may be more to life, or you feel different, I can relate to that and support you in exploring how to create a life that is meaningful to you.

I work with couples, families & individuals, offering brief solution-focussed counselling or longer-term therapy.
Life can feel overwhelming at times: it might be in our relationships, a lack of meaning or purpose, daily struggles or those horrible feelings of anxiety that just won’t go away. We might not be happy but we’re not sure why, we might feel life isn’t going the way we want it to whilst everyone else seems to be doing ok or more than ok. Talking openly and feeling truly heard can be life changing: we can say all those things that keep going round in our heads, the issues that keep coming back time and again, and work towards understanding what’s going on, make changes and find some peace. Isn't that what we all want and deserve?

The struggles you face today often have roots you can’t see- but therapy can help you understand them. Perhaps, it looks like you’re coping, yet inside you may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. You might notice old ways of coping no longer work, emotions that come out of nowhere, or a sense that you just don’t fit in. I offer a warm, supportive, inclusive space where you can slow down, explore your experiences, and make sense of what feels confusing or painful. I work integratively using Transactional Analysis, a talking therapy that can help you see how past experiences shape your present patterns.

We don't get wounded alone and we don't heal alone." Carl Jung. Are wounds from the past affecting how you are functioning in the present and your thoughts of the future? Our early experiences can create patterns of trust and distrust which affect how we are in our relationships with others and ourselves, as well as how we respond to trauma and stress throughout our lives on many different levels. However, whilst we may be shaped by the past I believe that we do not need to be trapped by it.

Having the time and space within counselling to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment is often the first step in making positive change in someone’s life. Our problems can sometimes feel too big or heavy to carry ourselves. Often it’s hard to pinpoint what’s actually wrong, but that low mood, and anxiety over powers us. Counselling will help you understand your behaviours and emotions that little bit better and give you insight into why you may be finding things difficult. With this understanding, it is often the catalyst for positive change leading to a more balanced and healthy future.

Many of the people who come to work with me are thoughtful, capable and self-aware, yet find themselves struggling with patterns of anxiety, self-doubt or overthinking that they can’t seem to shift on their own.
Often these patterns have deeper roots. Experiences earlier in life can leave us feeling unsupported, unseen, or responsible for managing things alone. Over time this can affect our nervous system, our confidence, and the way we relate to ourselves and others.
My work offers a calm, supportive space where we can explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion rather than judgement.

FAQ - About Family Therapy
What issues does family therapy help with?
Family therapy can help families navigate the complex dynamics of family life, including communication challenges and recurring conflict between family members. A therapist can help family members identify dysfunctional patterns in communication and develop healthier ways of relating. Family therapy may also be helpful during major life transitions or stressful events that affect the family system, such as grief, divorce, trauma, relocation, or a serious illness. In some cases, family therapy can support families coping with specific mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance use disorders, and eating disorders. In these situations, therapy can provide education and support to family members, as well as to the individual with the mental health diagnosis.
How do I know if my family needs counselling?
Family therapy may be helpful if a family consistently struggles with conflict or communication in a way that affects daily life or relationships. It can also be beneficial when someone in the family is experiencing significant emotional or behavioural changes, such as a family member becoming aggressive, withdrawing, or struggling to cope after a traumatic event. Additionally, some concerns, such as addiction or eating disorders, may be especially important to address in the context of the family unit.
Who attends family counselling sessions?
Family counselling sessions are often attended by members of the immediate family, such as parents, caregivers, children, or siblings. However, other family members may attend when appropriate, including grandparents, stepparents, stepsiblings, or co-parents. Who attends may depend on the family’s needs, the therapist’s recommendations, and the goals of treatment.
Can family therapy be done online?
Family therapy can often be done online. Virtual sessions may be especially convenient when family members live in different locations, have busy schedules, or live in a rural area or part of the country where family therapists are less accessible. However, online therapy may not be the best fit for every family. In-person care may be more appropriate when there are safety concerns, severe conflict, limited privacy at home, or when young children have difficulty engaging through a screen.
What therapeutic approaches are used in family counselling?
Family therapy can take different forms, including systemic family therapy (exploring how individual actions affect the family), structural family therapy (uncovering the structure and relationship dynamics of the family unit), and attachment-based family therapy (focusing on how bonds between family members shape relationships). Family therapy may also include psychoeducation, which helps family members learn more about a mental health condition and how to respond to it more effectively.
How much does family therapy cost and is it covered by insurance?
Family therapy sessions, which typically last about 50 minutes to an hour, often range from around £75 to £150 or more, depending on factors such as location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Family therapy often costs more than individual therapy because it involves multiple participants and more complex treatment planning. The NHS may cover family therapy, but access is often subject to local availability and waiting times. As a result, many families pay privately or use private health insurance or employee assistance benefits, if available. Before starting therapy, it is important to confirm how you will pay for sessions and whether family therapy is covered, which provider types are eligible, whether a referral is required, and whether there are limits on the number of sessions. ****
