In addition to adults I work with children and young people who sometimes get stuck and struggle with their mental health and emotional wellbeing – as a parent it can be really difficult to navigate this.
I offer therapy in a confidential space for you to explore your thought, feelings and mental health difficulties without judgement. Counselling is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach and I use a variety of therapeutic techniques to help you as an individual. There is no such thing as a ‘typical counsellor’ I am down to earth, and will not use fancy jargon!

I'm an experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained to MA and Doctoral level respectively with adults and children and adolescents.
I offer fifty minute sessions, at least once weekly, often more frequent. We hope to build an understanding of what's occurring over time. Children can use play materials provided by me. Young adults may draw or talk and adults often speak about what they are experiencing but this is not always easy to articulate and periods of silence are also common.

Have you been struggling lately? Maybe for a while? You are not alone. So many people have had difficult experiences, life circumstances and ill health that can throw them off balance. This can make the day to day aspects of life challenging. Anxiety, panic, flashbacks, low mood and difficulties sleeping, can all quickly spiral and sometimes, even with the support of others, it's not enough. Perhaps you have always found life difficult, particularly if you have a disability or are neurodiverse. Whatever your challenge, counselling can help.

I work best with clients who are ready to explore change and develop self-reflection and compassion. Some people arrive with big questions about life, identity, and direction. Others may not know exactly what they want, but sense something isn’t quite right — and that’s okay. Clients often choose to work with me because of my experience and the supportive, practical way I help them move forward. With over a decade of experience, I can help you clarify your goals and make meaningful progress in a way that feels manageable and authentic. I also offer Clinical Supervision - please see my website for details

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, specialising in work with infants, children and young people up to the age of 25; often alongside their parents or family.
Following an initial consultation, I offer a brief assessment phase to ensure the way I work can be helpful to you. I work with the 'here and now', but also make links to earlier experiences and personal history, helping to develop a sense of self, recognising strengths and challenges, identifying what can change and how you can achieve this.

Clients generally come to me when they are struggling with some aspect of their emotions, thoughts or behaviour. My aim is to help my client with accepting or changing some aspect of these three areas. Every client comes with unique issues and from my seat I view the issues as one, "a block in the road to wellness". I am keenly aware that all clients come with individual goals and I am here to help. Many of my clients use the phrase “I just want to feel better". This is my hope for everyone who engages with me in therapy. Together we will unpack what this really means, and develop a plan of how to make it happen.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
