Life can be a rough ride. Keeping the balance and moving forward can be a challenge. It can involve stress, anxiety, depression and much more. But I believe through psychological therapies we can learn and, in some cases even master, the art of managing life successfully. To achieve this, I practise an integrative approach that draws strength from various therapies in the field. I am a qualified Psychotherapist at a Doctoral level and I feel confident to deal with complexity . My natural inclination is to help people in need. My recent training and qualifications do enhance my inclination especially to those psychologically unwell.

It was Mr Miyagi in the movie “The Karate Kid” who said, “You know, but you do not understand.” We are often aware of the feelings and thoughts we are having, the behaviours they are causing and the distress that can generate. We can even know the traumas that have happened that we can attribute them to. But we can’t understand or articulate them enough to change them and heal. Perhaps this is the way you feel? Maybe you have been struggling with anxiety, depression or both for some time and everyday life is more challenging than you want it to be? Maybe you’ve experienced a traumatic event that you can’t seem to get over?

The most important thing first: No matter what place you’re in - there is hope for change and for things to get better. You may be reading this feeling vulnerable, disempowered, dejected, fearing disappointment or simply too overwhelmed to know how you feel. I'll meet you wherever you are and with whatever you bring and we can walk through your confusion and distress together. I've had the privilege of working with a diverse range of people with an equally diverse range of individual challenges. Spending time exploring your challenges can bring clarity, empower you to break with old patterns and help you find a positive way forward.

Are your relationships difficult or confusing? Has contact with family broken down, or become fractured? Feeling disconnected, anxious, and unsure about who you really are? I specialise in working with people who are troubled by relationship difficulties, family conflict and estrangement, and self-identity - particularly neurodivergence (ADHD, AuDHD and Autism). Life can get complicated, but clients tell me I reach places other therapists haven't. I'll help you to make sense of your experiences and find a way forward that feels more manageable, and I'll engage with what you bring, not just listen and nod.

Where anger, grief, confusion, shame, uncertainty, contradiction, humour, and all the difficult parts of being human are welcome too.
If you’re exhausted by shallow self-help, fake positivity, and constant pressure to be more productive, you’re not alone. Another podcast. Another morning routine. Another person online claiming they’ve mastered life while quietly falling apart behind the scenes. Meanwhile, you may still feel anxious, disconnected, stuck, lonely, overwhelmed, or unlike yourself underneath it all. I’m not especially interested in pretending life is simple or reducing people to diagnoses, labels, or productivity problems to solve.

As human beings we naturally at times feel overwhelmed, stuck, depressed, anxious, sad, fearful and lost. Therapy within the safety of a trusting therapeutic relationship can be transformative. I'm an experienced integrative therapist treating mental distress in the many ways it shows up. I work with attachment informed EMDR and Internal Family Systems, both evidence based models, and I am here to walk alongside you as we seek your way out of the discomfort you find yourself in, enabling you to live a full life in this present moment.

Maybe the reason you are here today is because you are experiencing feelings that you would rather not continue to carry alone. My practice is called ‘Accanto’ and I have built my service around this name, which translated means ‘next to or beside,’ and quite simply that is exactly where I will be for you. I do have an A-Z of what I cover but actually this is about YOU feeling that you can bring anything you need into the space that I offer. Counselling is initially about feeling better about all the different parts of yourself, learning to love your whole self so that you can then invite love and acceptance from others.

Ultimately, good therapy should make change: reactions, behaviours, difficult aspects of self, attitudes/beliefs about yourself or how you carry your story. I love work to with clients who are prepared to jump in, take risks and be proactive - this is the way to ensure real change. I jump in too, working with body and mind in a practical, energetic way. I view the best wisdom as something that can directly be applied to life. A supervisee described me as "real, relational, practical and not floaty/wispy". I like to incorporate psychoeducation and relevant theoretical information. I don't sit on my hands or allow unhelpful silences.

Firstly I want you to know that I love my job! I consider it a privilege to work with people, who are open minded enough to recognise that together, we can find tools to help improve their lives and get to the root of troubling issues, I have 15 years experience in a listening and counselling role.

Hi and welcome to something a bit different. Im an Integrative therapist with a Solutions-Focused approach. This means I integrate a variety of theories specific to a client's needs with a focus on finding tangible, workable solutions to problems. After years in Private practice, I noticed an increasing demand from clients looking for shorter-term, more intense therapy, to help quickly identify the route cause of their problems, understand how they are affecting their everyday lives and answer the question 'what can I do about it?, to help clients break free of the shackles holding them back from reaching their true potential.

My ideal client is one of complexity; I plan on to enrol onto a Doctorate becoming a counselling psychologist. I am a qualified counsellor and my knowledge base started 15 years ago when I fell ill. I have had an eventful life, including heart problems, strokes and many other issues. Through therapies, self help and determination I am happy with my life and I would love to share my knowledge. I have specialised in complex bereavement over the past 6 years seeing clients face to face and supporting them through the hard times. There is a need for more LGBT counsellors that understand and help.

I provide a range of evidence based psychotherapies to alleviate psychological distress in Devon, my main approach being Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). Intensive Short term Dynamic Psychotherapy is a highly effective form of psychodynamic psychotherapy designed to help you get to the heart of the matter quickly, and resolve issues fast. The approach is emotion focussed; a relational therapy that can address a wide range of ongoing problems or symptoms. ISTDP is particularly useful in attending to internal conflicts that can arise from interpersonal relationships.

As well as online video apps, I work face to face with adults, young people (18+) and couples. Sometimes friends or family are unable to support you so an impartial professional can really help. Powerlessness, change, loneliness, grief and anxiety are just a few of the overwhelming feelings many are experiencing. There is no need to be alone in this. Call for a chat to see if, together, we can find a way forward.

Are you feeling disconnected from your intimate life, overwhelmed by something you can’t quite name, or carrying a relational wound that feels too tender or too complicated to bring anywhere else? Perhaps you are navigating sexual difficulties, a relationship in crisis, the long reach of past trauma, or compulsive behaviours that feel out of control. Whatever you are holding, you do not have to hold it alone. I am here, and nothing you bring will be too much.

Anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, shame, fear, anger, grief, dissociation, flashbacks, and low self-esteem are significantly reduced and replaced with feelings of calm, safety, resilience, and self-acceptance.
If you carry inner overwhelm, confusion, or unresolved pain, and want a safe, empathetic space, I help people like you. I specialise in complex trauma, relationship issues, and existential distress, supporting those whose inner lives have been shaped by prolonged anxiety, grief, loss, and disconnection. I facilitate the processing of trauma, along with the search for meaning and truth; guiding you through reparative interventions that will help you find hope, clarity, and self-understanding. My integrative approach is adaptive to your individual needs, and empowers you to develop trust and confidence in your own inner guidance.

Are you distrustful, fearful and overwhelmed by your own emotions and sensations? Do you wish you could just make them go away? Issues arising from trauma or early attachment wounds may manifest in a number of ways including painful thoughts and memories, anxiety, depression, rage, physical pain and sensations (including unexplained physical symptoms, CFS, fibromyalgia and low energy). By viewing our thoughts, sensations, feelings and behaviours not as symptoms, but as parts of us that had to adapt to cope with life, we can get to know and heal these parts in a compassionate and non-pathologising way.

Hello, my name is Maria. I qualified as a specialist child & adolescent counsellor in 2011. Since this date I've been privileged to support hundreds of young people, plus their parents and educators, to cope with the many emotional hurdles faced during childhood and beyond. My friendly, empathetic, calm personality, allows me to form and sustain strong therapeutic alliances. In sessions I blend talking, creative, and play therapies, to best suit the young persons needs. My roles within International and U.K. schools have enhanced my understanding of cultural diversity, and the challenges of transitions for young people.
