My name is David and I offer outcome based therapy for complex based issues like depression, anxiety, addiction, and relationship challenges whether that is at home or work. We can only truly move past them by understanding where they originate from and deal with them as they present in your current life. This may involve looking at past experiences and the emotions associated with them in a compassionate, empathic, non-judgmental, curious way, creating the right conditions for you to get to the source of your problem and see how certain triggers from the past directly inform how you think, feel, and behave in the present moment.

A formulation is a way of understanding how everything fits together, and often helps to identify how or why difficulties have come about. We develop this understanding together in our first sessions, and then I draw on my experience, knowledge of a range of models and the evidence base to plan an intervention.

If you’ve arrived here, you’re likely looking for support to help you make meaningful changes in your life. Perhaps you’re experiencing confusing emotions, struggling with your mental health, or feel that life has reached a point where things just aren’t working anymore. Maybe you feel lost, unsure of exactly what needs to change - but something in your gut tells you that things don’t feel right. The good news is, these kinds of experiences are incredibly common, and they’re exactly where therapy can help. It can empower you to understand what’s going on and begin to move forward.

Whether we are using CBT techniques or work with the past and the subconscious, I will listen and challenge with care and compassion
When we meet I will discuss what sort of therapy will be best for you . I am a therapist who listens with intelligence and compassion, but I am not one who just sits in silence. I am sensitive to how difficult it can be to share personal issues. Sometimes the work will be challenging, but the experience of being heard and understood can be very powerful.

Sometimes it's about coping strategies and supporting my clients through a tough time or loss, want to change something about how they feel, think or behave, many look to free themselves of the past whilst some aren't sure exactly what they need, they simply feel the struggle to be happy in their life or relationships. You'll find I'm patient and calm by nature, have a compassionate and mature approach to helping, intuitively sense some things are really tough to talk about and whilst I will help you with ideas and tools to reduce symptoms and which can also speed up meaningful change between sessions, note: you will get to direct, manage your own destiny. I have always seen my role as guiding my client to see difficulties you stuck and with my help how to overcome them. My aim is always for my clients to be able to leave feeling confident in knowing their own well being long term.

I am an integrative practitioner which means that my practice is influenced by more than one approach. In my work I focus on adapting the best-suited approach to your individual needs. This might entail helping you find coping strategies to address specific symptoms or assisting you to increase understanding of yourself and your relationships with others. I am also using DIT model (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) which is a 16 sessions time limited therapy aiming to identify and change unhelpful patterns affecting your important relationships and professional achievements.

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
