Are you feeling stuck, unheard, anxious-then I hope we can work together. My work is principally founded in exploring how our early experiences, and relationships influence how we feel and relate today including how culture, identity, race, gender, and family dynamics shape emotional life causing individuals to be silenced, shamed and estranged. I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor offering a reflective and culturally sensitive space for supporting all adults who want to understand themselves more deeply. I have worked in a range of clinical settings including The Priory Hospital, NHS Talking Therapies and Age UK.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. Reaching the point where you want support, and finding someone you trust, takes courage. You may be looking for a therapist who can offer understanding while also being honest & direct. Someone who will take you seriously and work alongside you. I work with individuals & couples when connection feels strained or has broken down, and when you feel unseen, unheard, or disconnected. I pay close attention to relational patterns, responsibility, and the impact of wider social & cultural influences, including ideas about gender and power. I support reflection and change at a pace that feels manageable.

I can offer brief focused counselling where we can address a current situation, as well as longer term psychotherapy where we can work together to disentangle deeper rooted difficulties which may have built up over time as a result of your earliest experiences.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy in my consulting rooms in Finsbury Park and Cambridge, and in some instances remotely.
Perhaps you’re finding it hard to feel at ease in your body, your sexuality, or your relationships—feeling weighed down by anxiety, shame, or confusion about who you are or what you want. I work with both adults and young people, often those facing complex challenges that may be rooted in painful or traumatic experiences. Some people come after having had CBT or other time-limited therapies before and feeling frustrated it hasn’t brought the change they hoped for. Others already understand a lot about their struggles but still feel stuck with painful symptoms.

You may wish to seek psychotherapy at times of struggle, feeling sad or stuck, or having adverse experiences that you carry from your past. You may also want to gain more insight into yourself, your behaviours, your feelings and your relationships. People can experience difficulties in life, causing unhappiness at home, at work and in relationships. Often these difficulties are caused by past experiences or relationships the person is not consciously aware of. Once unconscious processes and well-established behavioural patterns are brought to the fore, it is easier for people to overcome their difficulties.

Hello and a warm welcome to you. ‘Something’ that is creating distress, and maybe leading to dysfunction, perhaps a feeling of ‘stuckness’ or 'emptiness' in your life, may have brought you here. This ‘something’ could be struggles within yourself, difficulties in relationships or dealing with grief or loss to name only a few. This ‘something’ may not yet be known to have a cause or reason and you may be unaware of exactly what the root of this inner pain or suffering is. And that’s okay. It could be a long-term feeling of emptiness. And gently starting to explore this feeling of emptiness is where our work begins.

Drawing on an integrative framework that includes psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking, Internal Family Systems (parts work), Jungian perspectives, CBT-informed behavioural restructuring, hypnotherapy, and trauma-focused approaches, I am able to rapidly detect the structures driving anxiety, stagnation, or repeated life difficulties.
My approach is direct, perceptive, and highly integrative. Rather than applying a single method, I assess each individual as a system and determine what is actually required; whether that is uncovering hidden memory, identifying internal conflicts, processing trauma, or restructuring behavioural patterns.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
