Taking the first step in therapy may be the hardest. Perhaps you have never opened up to anyone before, and this might seem like a daunting or overwhelming prospect. It is easy to get stuck in old patterns of behaviour, which prevent us from realising our potential or moving our lives forward. Do you carry baggage from your past or have fears for the future? You may be struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one, or perhaps you have self-destructive thoughts. You could have problems with addiction or depression or be locked in an abusive relationship or an unhappy marriage. I am here to help you find the real you.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship breakdown or life's challenges? Life can feel particularly tough when we feel vulnerable, often due to past trauma. By working psychodynamically, we can slowly begin to understand how our past affects our daily life, leading to greater self-awareness and positive change. As an experienced psychotherapist, I specialise in helping individuals and couples navigate life's difficulties.

My ideal client is someone who is motivated to improve their situation and open to self-reflection, even if they’re feeling unsure or overwhelmed at first. They may be dealing with stress, uncertainty, life transitions, or challenges that are holding them back from feeling their best. They need support, clarity, and practical guidance, along with a space where they feel understood and not judged. Their goal is to gain confidence, develop healthier habits or perspectives, and make meaningful progress toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. Ultimately, they want change because they’re ready to invest in themselves.

Attachment is the emotional wiring that shapes how love feels — whether it feels safe, overwhelming, or simply not worth the risk. It affects who you’re drawn to, how you handle difficulty, and why anxiety can rise as closeness grows. You might repeat painful patterns, struggle with boundaries, or worry about losing yourself in relationships. These are ways you learned to protect yourself when closeness didn’t feel safe. In our work, we look at these patterns and how safety and threat show up in the body, with the aim of calmer relationships, steadier emotions, and a more secure sense of connection.

When should someone seek treatment for sex addiction?
People should seek treatment for sex addiction if they cannot control their sexual thoughts or behaviours to the point that it disrupts their ability to function in daily life, for example by threatening their finances, career, or relationships. This may include spending an excessive amount of time obsessing over sex, planning sex, watching pornography, or masturbating, as well as consistently engaging in risky sexual activities, using sex to escape distressing feelings, or attempting yet failing to control sexual behaviour.

What are the most common treatment options for sex addiction?
Psychotherapy is the most common treatment for sex addiction; therapy helps patients better understand their compulsive thoughts and behaviours and develop strategies to manage their desires. Therapy may be supplemented by medications, such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anti-androgens, alcohol and substance use medications, as well as support groups, such as 12-step programs.

How long does therapy take for sex addiction?
Recovering from compulsive behaviour takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but research suggests 12 therapy sessions may be enough to see change. Treatment for sexual compulsions requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers and developing coping skills, and potential lifestyle changes such as cutting out alcohol or drugs.

What if sex addiction is left untreated?
Compulsive sexual behaviour can have serious repercussions if left unaddressed. For example, if sexual obsessions consume the vast majority of a person’s time, they may lose their job. If they can’t stop paying for sex, their finances may suffer. If they’re dishonest in their relationships, their partner may leave them. If they consistently feel shame, they may struggle with anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Therapy can help people develop the tools to manage sexual thoughts and behaviours that feel uncontrollable.
