Taking the first step in therapy may be the hardest. Perhaps you have never opened up to anyone before, and this might seem like a daunting or overwhelming prospect. It is easy to get stuck in old patterns of behaviour, which prevent us from realising our potential or moving our lives forward. Do you carry baggage from your past or have fears for the future? You may be struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one, or perhaps you have self-destructive thoughts. You could have problems with addiction or depression or be locked in an abusive relationship or an unhappy marriage. I am here to help you find the real you.

You may appear to be coping on the outside while inside feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure about the direction of your life. Perhaps you are facing anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or a period of change. Many people come to therapy when something no longer feels sustainable, and they want space to reflect, understand themselves more deeply, and find a different way forward. You may be looking for a therapist who offers both emotional depth and practical support, and who understands how life experiences, relationships, and inner patterns shape how we feel today.

If you are feeling troubled and are not sure how to move forward it may be a relief to talk things through. I specialise in working with people who have lost someone close, experienced a trauma that haunts them or an unexpected change in life such as a sudden loss, a health, work, or family problem. Difficulties in your relationships or work can cause anxiety, anger and loneliness in daily life and impact your sense of self. Often problems stem from the past, and unhealthy patterns can re-emerge. I can offer a safe space where together we can explore, locate, and work through what is troubling you so as to help you move forward.

Among the fast paced rush of day to day life it isn't hard to get lost. With so many things to keep up with be it finances, work, our family, relationships and everything else you might find that you put yourself low on your list of priorities while you make time for everything else. Each and every single one of us carry the desire to be seen, heard and understood as we are. Yet being yourself is no easy thing when you are faced with the judgement of others. Your therapy is time for yourself, for your needs, your thoughts and your feelings. A space for you as you are without any judgement.

Sometimes you may feel a sense of general dissatisfaction and unhappiness in your life, but you may be unsure where this stems from, and sometimes you may have the understanding but not the motivation or resources to deal with the uncomfortable feelings. In our sessions, we will have the chance to explore whatever is troubling you and help you build on your resources and strengths to confront whatever you are dealing with at the time or in the past. Together, we will identify your patterns of behaviour and relating to others which may be preventing you from realising your true potential and living a fulfilled life.

Even in situations where we do not experience bereavement explicitly – in divorce, for example, or when events conspire to permanently deny us certain opportunities – we can experience this shattering dimension of loss.
Together we can make sense of your situation and find a path through. There can be a fear of shame or failure in asking for help, or showing vulnerability but actually these are signs of strength. I can support you in your courageous step to ask for help and walk alongside you as we explore your experiences.

Divorce Counsellors
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
