My therapy training is psychodynamic in nature, and I am also trained in the essentials of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - a values focused approach to mindful action and reflection
Life often feels messy. Sometimes we can get trapped in a storm of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that we just can't figure out how to move through, and we can be left feeling frustrated and helpless. I really understand that, it can be unbearable to feel this way and we can feel worse for not knowing how to 'fix' it. The truth is that you don't need to be fixed, trust me on this. Instead, you are likely at a point where you could do with the right support and guidance to help you listen to what's happening within, and come to understand it in a different way that allows you to move forward.

You are holding it all together, but are you living fully? On paper, everything looks fine, but inside, you feel exhausted and disconnected by the effort of holding up the mask of 'being fine'. You wake up tense, shutting down to your partner or reacting to small things. This isn't a failure; it's an old survival strategy. As a child, you learned to suppress your needs to be safe. Now, your nervous system is stuck on high alert, keeping you small and exhausted. If you are tired of merely functioning and feel that niggling sense that you are missing out on your own life, I am here to help you come back to yourself.

I am a qualified pyschotherapeutic counsellor which means I combine the supportive and pragmatic approach of counselling with the deeper and explorative methods of psychotherapy. My approach is integrative which means I work using different 'styles' of therapy to explore the reasons which bring you to therapy; such as through the lens of developmental and environmental influences (relational and circumstantial) and neurobiological development and attunement. In other words how our ideas of self respond to adverse experience while we are growing and how our bodies and minds create memories and influence our lives.

Music Therapy offers a space to safely explore and express experiences and emotions beyond the reach of words. Through musical play, listening, singing, or simply being present with sound, we can begin to process what we’re carrying and reconnect with parts of ourselves that may feel lost, overwhelmed, or changed. In this space, music becomes a gentle container for feelings, helping with self-regulation, strengthening identity, and building connection with ourselves and others. Music Therapy is suitable for people of any age, and no musical experience is needed.

I wonder what it feels like to find yourself here, looking for some kind of support? Maybe you are struggling to 'make sense' of what you've been experiencing in your life recently? Many of my clients inhabit a crowded yet empty world, in which they cannot easily 'hear' themselves, or feel that they are not 'understood' by those around them. Perhaps you feel a little like this too? My first hope as a counsellor is that working collaboratively you will feel both heard and understood - maybe for the first time. When this happens, we begin to develop the inner resources needed to discover and engage with who we truly are.

Core Process Psychotherapy integrates mindfulness with contemporary psychodynamic understanding.
I am particularly interested in the mind-body connection and its role in healing unresolved distress. Our bodies recall our emotional pain with more clarity than our brains can remember. In therapy, the safe and confidential relationship we develop will allow you to explore your present-moment experiences. Working collaboratively and creatively, at a pace that feels right for you, we will pay holistic attention to your feelings, thoughts and physical sensations. As your awareness, understanding and compassion grows, this greater clarity can empower you to move towards connection, wholeness and wellbeing.

My approach is integrative, drawing upon evidence-based modalities including person-centred therapy, psychodynamic theory, and attachment theory.
I'm a therapist who works with individuals facing a wide range of difficulties, supporting them to navigate through difficult things in life. I also support people who want to know and understand themselves and their relationships better. You will no doubt have deeply personal and unique reasons for starting therapy and seeking support at this time. My approach begins with understanding you as a person; your experiences, relationships, strengths, and what's important to you, rather than seeing you as a list of symptoms.

M Scott Peck wrote in the "Road Less Travelled" ... "Life is difficult". We all have times when we get stuck, we're overwhelmed, not sure where to turn and loose sleep. During these periods, we need some help, some me time with someone who is going to listen, not judge and offer them the support they need, in order to develop insights into "why this is happening" and to help them find the solutions to make a change, to get to a happier place.

I am a psychodynamic counsellor, which means we’ll look at events in your life that may be making you feel stuck, overwhelmed, trapped in old patterns or maybe you’ve got a feeling that something isn’t quite right.
If life feels too difficult and confusing right now, you don’t have face it alone. I can offer you a space where you can breathe, talk freely and start feeling like yourself again. You won’t be judged; just heard, understood and supported. Together, we’ll untangle what’s going on inside your head at a pace that feels right for you. Real progress happens when we feel safe with someone, and that’s what I aim to achieve.

I work relationally and integratively, drawing from person-centred, psychodynamic, and embodied approaches to support reflection, emotional honesty, and meaningful change.
Currently Accepting New Clients. Not everything that brings someone to therapy arrives with a clear name. Sometimes it’s a loss or a turning point; sometimes it’s quieter—an ache, a restlessness, a sense of disconnection. However it appears, I see therapy as a place to pause and pay attention—not to fix, but to meet experience more closely and listen to what it asks.

My approach is tailored to your needs, drawing from a range of evidence-based techniques, including psychodynamic and person-centered therapy.
I am deeply committed to supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse/assult and domestic violence, because I believe in the incredible resilience and strength that survivors possess. The effects of trauma can feel overwhelming and isolating, but I have seen how the process of therapy can foster healing, restore hope, and rebuild a sense of control.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
