For anxiety or low mood, I would usually recommend 10 or more sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy with aspects of other evidence based therapy such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy.
Hi there and welcome! Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and finding the right therapist is an important part of that journey. I am an Integrative Counsellor and Therapist with over 30 years of experience in mental health, gained through both the NHS and private practice. Over the years, I have had the privilege of supporting adults, teenagers, couples, and families through many of life's challenges and transitions. I believe that every person is unique, and there is no single approach that works for everyone. I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to create a way of working that best suits your needs.

I draw on CBT and ACT alongside psychodynamic and systemic insights.
I work with adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Whether that stems from processing difficult past events, managing persistent anxiety and burnout, or navigating major life changes like a physical health or neurological diagnosis. You might be feeling exhausted from trying to carry everything on your own, or finding that your usual ways of coping are no longer working. Together, we can pause, make sense of what is going on beneath the surface, and build a clearer path forward.

Many seek support when life feels difficult to manage alone. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can explore their experiences, discover their strengths, and develop practical tools to help them thrive.

Using approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Compassion-focused Therapy (CFT), I can help you build self-understanding, develop coping tools, and move towards the life you want, at a pace that feels right for you.
You might be feeling low, anxious, or overwhelmed, struggling with confidence, self-criticism. Perhaps you find yourself withdrawing from others or feeling stuck, yet longing to understand yourself better, feel more like ‘you’ again, and live a more meaningful, connected life. If you’re ready for change, but not sure how to get there, and you're looking for someone to walk alongside you, with compassion and expertise, I can help you take that first step. I also have specialised expertise in supporting individuals navigating life after illness such as stroke, brain injury, or cancer, including bereavement support.

Using approaches like Compassion-Focused Therapy, ACT, and coaching, I’ll help you uncover your strengths, reduce anxiety, and build confidence to create meaningful, lasting change.
Life is so beautiful, and life is so hard. Maybe, for you, it feels especially hard right now. On the outside, you might appear fine, but inside, you’re overwhelmed. Anxiety, overthinking, or self-doubt could be holding you back, making it hard to focus or set goals. Sleep may feel impossible, leaving you exhausted and unmotivated. You want clarity, calm, and to reconnect with what matters most. You’re ready for change, even if you’re unsure where to start.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
