Body Psychotherapy is a holistic form of psychotherapy which naturally incorporates the body within the psychotherapeutic process. Our life experiences are experienced in the mind, and also felt, sensed and held in our bodies. As in other forms of psychotherapy, we work together to understand and therapeutically work through the issues you face. Together, we explore your skills and talents that you can utilise and explore the ability and capacity to heal, develop self-awareness and open the way for new modes of being. The support, growth and transformation occur through the quality of the relationship we form together.

I have a particular interest in working with clients of African and African-Caribbean heritage, especially those with experiences of separation, abandonment, displacement, and spiritual or religious conflict. My work is informed by an awareness of the ongoing systemic barriers these communities often face in accessing mental health support, and the impact this can have on identity, belonging, and wellbeing. At the same time, my intercultural orientation emphasises dialogue across cultures, allowing me to navigate issues of sameness and difference with curiosity and sensitivity.

Do you find yourself overthinking conversations, worrying about how you're perceived, or feeling responsible for holding relationships together? You may appear capable on the outside, yet inside feel anxious, self-critical, or not quite enough.
Perhaps you find it difficult to trust yourself, put the needs of others before your own, or feel caught in patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Difficulties in relationships, anxiety and self-doubt are rarely random. They often reflect deeper patterns formed earlier in life. Ways of coping that once felt necessary can later become exhausting or limiting.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or unsure why the same difficulties keep resurfacing despite your best efforts. When something feels persistently difficult — whether that’s anxiety, low mood, trauma or relationship strain — it can be hard to know where to begin.
I work with children, young people, adults and families to make sense of what may be happening beneath the surface — not just to ease symptoms, but to deepen understanding and support meaningful, lasting change.
I have extensive experience supporting those affected by marginalisation, discrimination, exclusion and identity-related challenges.

My approach mainly draws on Psychoanalysis, Somatic & Neurobiological approaches along with Philosophy & Critical Theory.
Problems in living often result in diminished capacity and ability to be experimental/creative in thinking, feeling and desiring. Whatever it is that brings you to therapy may require investigation and exploration into your current ways of living/being with careful excavation into your histories (personal, family, transgenerational, existential, etc

We will utilise verbal retelling, somatic exploration, chair work, writing, creativity and we will utilise our relationship to give us insight into your others.
I think we sometimes come to therapy not knowing exactly what it is that's causing us pain. Maybe we feel fear, anger, confusion or just a sense of detachment from who we feel we used to be or could be; sometimes it is only symptoms (such as addictions, eating disorders, OCD) which we can identify. You might be experiencing family or work issues or, maybe, you’re in grief (from a death/relationship breakdown or any significant change in your life). Whatever your reason for wanting therapy I know that, ultimately, we want to feel better than we do right now.

I am passionate about empowering clients to develop or strengthen their own sense of agency in the world, so that they feel in control. In order to do this, I work collaboratively with clients rather than acting as an expert. I walk alongside my clients in their therapeutic journey, rather than taking the lead and instructing which can at times feel disempowering. Whilst I use my knowledge and expertise to help clients consider new ways of viewing the world and offer guidance on ways they may consider changing their behaviours to better suit their needs, I do not act as an "expert" as I believe each person knows themselves best.

Are you looking for someone to help you understand WHY you feel the way you do, and to help you feel more empowered to CHOOSE how you go forward?
It’s amazing how many of us are locked into a struggle with ourselves. As if life isn’t challenging enough, our inner conflicts, judgements and critiques add a whole second layer that can leave us feeling confused, exhausted and unsafe. My aim is to help you step onto your own team, so that when life gets rough, you have support, tools, and the insight to know what you need to be well. This includes naming and acknowledging the places where systemic oppression touches our lives.

My integrative training allows me to draw on various approaches, including solution-focused therapy, relational CBT, psychodynamic theory, attachment work, and somatic (body-based) psychotherapy.
Right now, your life might feel “off” or like a bit of a mess. You’ve tried Google, read self-help books, or watched mental health videos, but nothing seems to be helping. That can feel frustrating — even alien, especially if you’re someone others describe as “strong.” No one would guess that you might be struggling.
You're emotionally intelligent. You can name your feelings and even connect them to past experiences. And yet, you’re still overthinking, maybe even panicked, shut down or even shamed. Your emotional needs feel unmanageable.

I work with adults experiencing relationship difficulties, anxiety in relationships and low self-esteem or feelings of not being 'good enough.'
You may feel anxious or on edge in relationships but more confident when on your own, or notice repeating relationships patterns that feel difficult to change. You may struggle to express how you feel, leading to frustration, self-doubt or feeling overlooked.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
