Body Psychotherapy is a holistic form of psychotherapy which naturally incorporates the body within the psychotherapeutic process. Our life experiences are experienced in the mind, and also felt, sensed and held in our bodies. As in other forms of psychotherapy, we work together to understand and therapeutically work through the issues you face. Together, we explore your skills and talents that you can utilise and explore the ability and capacity to heal, develop self-awareness and open the way for new modes of being. The support, growth and transformation occur through the quality of the relationship we form together.

I coined the term "empathic-mentalisation" to highlight therapist’s skilful ability to connect with his client in a way that would allow the therapist to not just hear and understand (at a cognitive level) patients’ vulnerabilities but instead to allow himself to feel his client’s pain in a way which will help the client
Sarah is a successful paralegal in the City who struggled with shameful feelings and self-disgust most of her life. Typically as Christmas was approaching and lots of parties invitations started to arrive on her desk, she would surrender into procrastination and self-criticism, in order to avoid a situation she felt likely to fail, supported by an exaggerated set of predictions about social embarrassment or other social disasters. Sarah struggles to improve her confidence and esteem - in spite of a successful academic and professional life. Her efforts are genuine but exhausting and she often is trapped by episodes of depression.

I have a particular interest in physical health conditions such as chronic pain and CFS.
I know how difficult it is to find a therapist you can trust for help with your emotional and psychological difficulties. Sometimes our suffering is concealed from friends, family or colleagues because we are good at hiding it but deep inside, we are left feeling far from happy, fulfilled or content. At other times our difficulties are more noticeable. I am passionate about helping people live better lives. I help them discover what matters to them, what type of person they want to be and how they would like to behave. Once their values are clarified I help them make sustainable changes towards the things that are important to them.

We will also discuss the therapeutic approaches that may be most helpful for you, whether that's trauma-focused therapy, strategies for managing chronic pain, or ways to improve your self esteem.
Life can feel overwhelming when perfectionism, self-doubt, or deep-rooted fears hold you back. Perhaps you find yourself overachieving but never feeling "good enough," or struggling with anxiety and self-criticism that drain your energy. You might be carrying the weight of trauma or difficult past experiences, repeating patterns that no longer serve you. If you feel stuck, exhausted, or disconnected from the life you want, know that you don’t have to navigate this alone. Therapy is a space where you can explore these struggles with compassion, curiosity, and without judgment.

How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophising, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
