Struggle to make sense of things or finding it difficult to cope? Counselling can help you come to terms with things, and make real changes in your life. You may find it useful to come and talk if you are dealing with difficult emotional issues, relationship difficulties, or specific psychological or mental health problems. Therapy can help you to find clarity and balance in your life. That may be dealing with traumatic past events, learning to connect with others or helping you to understand yourself better and making positive choices for the future. It can be a relief to talk to someone and feel that they are listening.

Does life sometimes feel like a jigsaw puzzle with pieces not slotting together? I am a great believer that we need to invest in ourselves. When life becomes difficult and those pieces are just not fitting, counselling gives you the opportunity to focus on yourself, make you the priority in an otherwise busy life. I have been through such times and it encouraged me to train as a counsellor to help clients with general mental health issues and other life difficulties, such as grief, addiction, sexuality, domestic abuse and anger issues.

Hi! My name is Claudia (she/her). I'm a counsellor, therapist, mother, wife, daughter, dog lover, friend among many other roles! The challenges of having all these roles made me reflect on the importance of taking care of our mental health which led to my training in Gestalt Therapy. My profession is my passion and I feel privileged to help transform lives for the better. Many times, the way we deal with our problems and needs ends up keeping us stuck, generating more and more suffering like anxiety, depression and stress.

Do you struggle with anxiety, poor self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or other emotional issues? Do you sometimes find it difficult to articulate what the problem is or feel that words are just not enough to express it? It might be that Dramatherapy is right for you. Dramatherapy is a form of psychological therapy/psychotherapy in which all of the performing arts are utilised within the therapeutic relationship (BADth). It is particularly helpful when you struggle to articulate what the problem is or when words are just not enough to express it. Clients do not need to have previous experience or skills in acting, theatre or drama, it is not about performing well or being good at acting, rather it is about making use of dramatic tools to explore, address and make sense of troubling issues. I am Marta Paglioni, a Dramatherapist clinical practitioner registered with HCPC and full member of BADth (British Association of Dramatherapists). - Cover image from: Designed by Freepik)-

We all get stuck, from time to time. Sometimes it feels like we cannot move forward. It can be frustrating, constraining and painful. Yet there is energy behind every blockage, and looking at it from above – as if from a bridge – can be the first step to unlocking our potential. This is what I aim to offer to my clients. My approach is creative, in that it adapts to individual needs, and culturally sensitive, as it draws on my experience of transit and change. I practise in English and Italian. Face to face and online.

Would you like to talk to someone in confidence? There are times in our lives that we hesitate to share our inner thoughts and feelings, or keep our problems and painful experiences, anxieties, or worries from our friends, loved ones, and family. In times like these, it is helpful to talk things out in confidence to someone who will listen without being judgemental or critical, but will be there to offer a tentative ear with empathic understanding, with a genuine care, warmth and respect.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
