When we are experiencing difficulties and our usual means of coping aren’t enough, it can be difficult to know where or who to turn to. Therapy can provide a non-judgemental and expectation free space to reflect on what is going on for us, what changes we might want to make and how we might go about this. My core approach to therapy is based in Transactional Analysis however I am also trained in integrative therapy and draw on contemporary relational Psychodynamic therapy as well, but my approach with each client is different, reflecting the uniqueness of each client’s needs.

Hi! My name is Claudia (she/her). I'm a counsellor, therapist, mother, wife, daughter, dog lover, friend among many other roles! The challenges of having all these roles made me reflect on the importance of taking care of our mental health which led to my training in Gestalt Therapy. My profession is my passion and I feel privileged to help transform lives for the better. Many times, the way we deal with our problems and needs ends up keeping us stuck, generating more and more suffering like anxiety, depression and stress.

Would you like to talk to someone in confidence? There are times in our lives that we hesitate to share our inner thoughts and feelings, or keep our problems and painful experiences, anxieties, or worries from our friends, loved ones, and family. In times like these, it is helpful to talk things out in confidence to someone who will listen without being judgemental or critical, but will be there to offer a tentative ear with empathic understanding, with a genuine care, warmth and respect.

Who said only children can use
art
to freely express and be playful? ".
The protective power of arts in health and mental health has been with us for millennia and today is evidence based. Daily life's emotional demands often go unnoticed and coping with anger, fear and sadness is socially accepted to happen in silence. Nourishing and protecting our mental health can get easily neglected. Although family and friends can play a wonderful supportive role in times of need they may not be enough in times of crisis. Making the choice to look after our mental health is our first step to personal growth. Making
art
is creative and fun. Being part of a supportive and safe group is therapeutic.

Hello I'm Jen and I am a person-centred therapist and I have been in private practice since May 2020 where I see clients remotely. I offer person-centred therapy to both adults and children. Working as a person-centred therapist I believe the client is very much the driver of their own therapy journey and I am here to offer that safe space required to enable the client to freely explore what is going on for them at a pace which feels natural to the individual. There is no obligation to set goals as the therapy I provide is very fluid and can go in any direction as the therapy offered is all about the person and not goals or targets.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
