A Humanistic,
Integrative
Counsellor, I believe you know You best and that, if faced with the right circumstances, everyone can achieve positive change in their life.
We all have periods when we struggle with current or historical events and/or issues. The life we have led, experienced or been subjected to, shaped who we are today. People in our past made choices for us; we learned how to be and what to do in order to be a 'good' girl or boy, to fit in and to please others. If we can increase our self-awareness and understand where our thoughts, feelings and behaviour today come from, we can get to a point where we can make our own, adult choices about how to be, what to think and how to behave…more suited to who we are today.

People are individuals, and I'm commited to the idea that the support they receive should reflect this and come from a place of positive personal empowerment. I truly believe that difficult times and challenges offer an opportunity for personal growth and development, but also that you don't just have to 'survive' them ,you can come out thriving.

I have been working empathetically with clients for over 20 years as an
Integrative
Therapist, combining a variety of techniques and experience to support each individuals needs in a holistic person-centred way. The beauty of working this way is that we look at the whole experience, understanding the root of the problem will be influenced by psychology, emotions, the physical body along with their history, culture and family experiences. Often when we find ourselves struggling in life, we are repeating old unhealthy learnings which are buried deeply in the unconscious and play out when we find ourselves challenged or triggered.

I am an
integrative
therapist tailoring treatment based on the individual and their presenting problems.
Life can be really hard sometimes, difficult things happen or people struggle emotionally for a variety of reasons. Lots of people need support at some time in their lives for themselves or people they care for. I genuinely believe that most people who are struggling want to improve their situation and need support to enable them to be and feel the best they can. However, just because you did not cause all your problems does not mean you do not have to work to try to make things better. That is where I can help, providing support, therapy and specialist assessment for young people and adults.

It is only human to suffer and feel pain. Too often we bear the burden of difficult past experiences, uncertainty about the future or disconnection from the here and now. These experiences can leave us feeling isolated and alienated. But we do not need to be alone in our distress. At theses time we need a helping hand to make sense of and overcome a painful past or a troubling present and look toward a more hopeful and meaningful future. At my comfortable clinic in Eastbourne I offer a warm, empathic and confidential service for adults experiencing a broad range of difficulties using a breadth of proven, evidence-based approaches.

If you decide to work with me it will be rather like setting out on a journey together. On that journey I’ll be your fellow traveller, companion and guide. Whether or not your reason for coming to see me is an external situation that’s impacting your life, a key part of our time together will be to explore your inner world. As we explore that world together you may develop greater insight into patterns of thought and behaviour that served you once but now limit you; you may find alternative ways of approaching difficulties; you may discover a way of being in the world that is more in tune with who you truly are.

You are probably struggling with something in your life which you have been unable to resolve yourself. This may be a relationship or sexual problem, anger issues, family problems, anxiety/depression or maybe just a feeling that something is missing in your life. You may have found that you haven't been able to come up with a solution and that talking to family or friends feels like you're burdening them or it is hard to get an objective perspective. Instead of feeling like you're going round in circles and repeating the same mistakes, you'd like to feel more free and empowered.

What is integrative therapy?
Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.
How does integrative therapy work?
Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behaviour patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.
How long does integrative therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
How effective is integrative therapy?
There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
