I specialise in all forms of trauma from adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, road/work accidents, anxiety, depression , bereavement.
No one needs to suffer alone, and in fact, I like to think that no one needs to suffer at all. I have dedicated most of my adult life, helping people with their mental health, as a nurse, a social worker and as a psychologist. I have over 40 years experience in the Mental Health field, 16 of which have been with the NHS as a Senior Psychologist. I help all age groups both face to face and on-line. My clients have varied needs and I offer an individual plan of treatment for each person depending upon their specific needs and goals.

Life is difficult and often complex, sometimes engaging in a professional therapeutic relationship can help us make sense of things that are causing us distress. I am a person-centred therapist and I care deeply about the work I do. My therapeutic modality has trained me to work holistically with people as a whole rather than work in a problem specific way. I endeavour to co-create relationships which have a healing effect on my clients. Although I have extensive experience with depression , anxiety and addiction, I work with people, not just their problems.

Maybe you're coming to therapy with a definite issue that you are able to name, but perhaps you feel sad or not quite yourself, and you’re not sure why. I work both short and long term with therapy clients on a range of issues, such as depression , anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship issues. Therapy sessions are all unique. Some weeks you may simply want to talk and feel better for getting things off your chest. In other sessions, we may think together about things you can try to help feel less anxious or overwhelmed, or I might offer insights on your situation for us to talk through together. Each session is personal to you.

As a CBT therapist and midwife I really understand the barriers you might feel asking for help during the perinatal period (pregnancy, birth or postnatally). Many people struggle to talk about their anxiety, depression or doubts and worries about being a parent. You might feel judged or that you have failed in some way and there can be a real sense of pressure to feel positive throughout, making it sometimes feel really hard to admit you are struggling, so I understand just how significant asking for help is. Reaching out is positive and is the first step towards recovery - of your sense of self, your self worth and your wellbeing.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
