In my therapeutic practice, I combine person-centred approaches with developmental and attachment theories. I specialise in working with children who have limited verbal communication skills and in some cases therapy for non-verbal children. I integrate art, play, movement, role play, and storytelling into my work with young people and children. By employing a wide range of creative techniques, I aim to engage and connect with each child individually, fostering their personal growth and self-expression. My passion lies in helping and supporting children in their journey to become the best versions of themselves. .

Life brings all sorts of challenges and some can be much harder to overcome than others. Most adults can remember a time when they were dealing with a situation so tough that everyday living became more challenging than usual. For children and young people, who have not had time to develop their own coping strategies, such situations are even more difficult to cope with. Many children who are having a difficult time do not know what it is that they are feeling and cannot put it into words. Counselling for children and young people might be slightly different to the traditional idea of therapy you may have in mind.

My counselling approach combines aspects of Person Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic Therapy. As a counsellor my job is to help you to both make sense of what is happening to you and to find a way to live with the challenges you are facing. I strongly believe that the best way to do this is to create a safe relationship where you don’t feel judged and can explore all of your feelings. "Dianne helped my husband and I bridge seemingly impossible gaps in our understanding of each other and ability to communicate despite considerable differences. Dianne took us from a place where we encountered apparently unresolvable emotional blockages daily, from a place of frustration and chronic misunderstanding to a place where we were able to appreciate each other's feelings and show love to one another increasingly unreservedly. She was skilfully professional, without ever faltering in compassion or humanity. She has given us the tools we needed to succeed in our marriage and we are hugely grateful for her help. " Annon

My name is Julie and I love living in the city, the hustle and bustle of life and human connection. I worked in hospitality management for 25 years and understand the pressures of working full time while running a business and a home. I believe that therapy should be an open space for us to come together and work out what is going on and how you can make some changes to make life better.

People seek counselling and psychotherapy for various reasons. Not everyone knows what is bothering them. Often it is the difficulties and challenges of daily life that become overwhelming and unmanageable, impacting relationships, work and decision making. It is sometimes beyond the control of the individual to address those issues without professional help.

In therapy, I encourage self-care and a self-compassionate mindset. Having diagnoses of both Autism and ADHD, I focus on neurodivergence and how it impacts wellbeing and self-esteem. Together, we map out a route to enable you to fulfil your own potential; devising strategies to help with life balance and greater autonomy. You are unique; and so personal reflection and behavioural flexibility are vital for your own growth. I set relevant tasks for between sessions; utilising CBT and elements of NLP for self-development and optimal outcomes. If you are committed to deepening self-understanding, contact me to talk about next steps.

I specialise in working with children & their families, particularly young children. Parents contact me because they are concerned about their child's behaviour or development, sometimes they can see that their child is worried, cross or seems sad. Often parents have questions about how best to respond to their child in different situations, or want to learn more about different parenting approaches. Parents also worry about relationships within the family; whether they feel as close to their child as they thought they would, or whether difficult times have put a strain on relationships. These are all good reasons to get in touch.

Your place in this world matters. Choosing a therapist is an important part of your journey, my objective is to create a space in which you feel safe and comfortable to express yourself. Being integrative means that I am trained in more than one approach to counselling, allowing me to be flexible with the approach that works for you. Through counselling, we can create the space to explore parts of yourself that you might feel unable to share with others. I have helped people with experience of trauma, depression, social anxiety and more. I currently offer online sessions.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
