Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counselling in Earley
Hi, I’m Debbie. I don’t yet know why you need my help. Maybe you suffer from anxiety, lack of confidence, self-doubt, a debilitating phobia, panic attacks, PTSD or Trauma. Maybe you can't quite put your finger on it but just know you want to feel different and better. More whole? Be more part of life rather than an observer? Less lonely? No longer held back? Perhaps you've tried many times to make permanent changes and haven't yet succeeded.

I see clients from across all ages, ethnicities and with an extremely wide range of issues. I help clients to come to grips with substance abuse, depression, all forms of anxiety and much more besides. I help my clients to summon the strength to put their issues behind them. I help them to find new ways of feeling, thinking and behaving. Whatever their goals might be, I help them to realise that they're strong enough, good enough and able to achieve them. I particularly specialise in working with clients on the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum.

People at times regard seeking counselling as a weakness, however in my view it actually shows great strength to seek support when you are facing issues in your life. I have supported many clients who have felt traumatised and unable to see the way forward, but we have managed to work through their issues with the appropriate supporting therapy, Being an Integrative Therapist, selecting the right therapy or therapies will be the most important way to build our therapeutic relationship, which will help you in dealing with your unique situation, and I hope that should we decide to work together we will achieve a positive result.

I specialise in helping adults with OCD and anxiety find freedom from the constant noise of the mind.
Alongside CBT, I’m training in DIT, a brief psychodynamic therapy that explores attachment and relationship patterns. My CBT work includes ERP and behavioural experiments to gently expand comfort zones. I also use somatic tools like breathwork and body scans, as the body often holds what words cannot.

With a specialist interest in working with young people and their families, I have enjoyed particular successes in helping teenagers and young adults manage both mild and complex social anxiety; generalised anxiety; phobias; and OCD.
Perhaps you’re a teenager or young adult, who experiences physical symptoms of anxiety (such as stomach aches or racing heart), which make you want to avoid certain situations. Or maybe you’re a parent or guardian, eager to get the best support for a loved one who struggles with anxious thoughts or behaviours. Rest assured, you’ve come to the right place. I care. My interest in providing timely treatment for difficulties such as these is the reason why I founded Flourishing Futures Psychology. I too was prone to getting tangled up with anxiety when I was younger, so I know how it can try to trip you up.

Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Phobias, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disotder, Health Anxiety and many others.
I work using a combination of Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) approaches. I believe that this offers you the best of both worlds. You may feel your life has lost meaning and this can lead to depression, stress or anxiety. This can sometimes be due to unhelpful or negative thinking (cognitive) patterns and together we can work on these. Talking to a professional counsellor can help you process those feelings and move towards a more contented life. I will not judge you and I will always work at your pace. I offer a careful balance of support and gentle challenge.

Many of the people I work with describe feeling stuck in patterns that leave them drained, saying yes when they want to say no, overthinking every little thing or feeling like their mind never switches off. Sometimes it's the opposite, feeling paralysed by indecision, stuck in procrastination and avoidance. Often there can be a background noise of persistent self-doubt or maybe guilt. Therapy might offer an opportunity to understand what’s really going on, not just the symptoms, but the patterns, pressures and histories driving them. Sometimes this can be about making changes in our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

I have experience of supporting adults presenting with issues which have included; a general sense that things are 'not right' with you, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, low mood, bereavement, experiences of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, family difficulties, relationship struggles, low self-worth, personality disorders, feeling stuck or experiencing trauma.

My approach offers a space for you to explore your experiences at your own pace, within a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment. Together, we’ll gently make sense of what’s happening for you now and begin to uncover what might be keeping you feeling stuck, with the aim of opening up the possibility for change. At the core of my work is the belief that the therapeutic relationship is central to healing. It’s through a genuine, trusting connection that meaningful and lasting change can take place.

Hello, we are the Integrative Centre for OCD Therapy.
We are integrative at our core. Which means we often integrate two or more therapies to meet the needs of the individual. Each of our therapists come with a wealth of training in different therapies, however the foundation of what we do is exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

I provide treatment for common problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma/post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and obsessions/ compulsions ( OCD).
It can be both bewildering and overwhelming to choose the right therapist to help you make the most progress in therapy. Having a good fit with your therapist can help you feel more at ease and find it easier to open up about your thoughts and feelings to address your problems in new ways. I offer a warm and friendly professional attitude towards all of my clients. As it can be a bit nerve wracking if not daunting to meet your therapist for the first time, I try and think of how I would like to be treated myself if coming to therapy, and what would me to start to build a relationship and trust my therapist.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
